You've got to bear in mind that the simpleton Scar claims that Austin Trout and Angulo are better than anyone Golovkin has fought so far.
Yeah you're dead right, you're obviously of the opinion that words mean very little in this sport rather it's the actions of said fighter that tell the story.
Firstly I'm not a Golovkin fan. If he got brutally KO'd in 1 by Jacobs I'd just have a good laugh about how avoided he was for so long by so many when he was there to be beaten. Since you want to discuss Cotto so much I'll run through a few bits with you. Which incumbent champs did he beat? Was he ever genuinely 'the man' in his division? Didn't he pretty lose of his biggest fights? His best wins are a severely damaged post ban Margo, faded Mosley and Judah and a crippled Martinez. Hardly the stuff of legend. Now, this doesn't help Golovkin's CV in any way. I just find it interesting you think Cotto did everything the hard way. He was well managed. I can't believe that's even up for debate.
We will eventually find out how the Alvarez fight will go. I do agree with you that if it was in the 90s, we would have fireworks. But I honestly don't see Golovkin faring well against any of the fighters you mentioned. G-man sparks him and Toney outclasses him.
If I may interject in you guys debate to answer your question on Floyd and Trout , #1 correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Mayweather move up and fight the #1 rated Champ at every weight but 140 where he was legitimately ducked by guys. Don't think you can list who he moved up and took title's from and find a better champ than the ones he faced. Also I don't think Angulo is top tier but as far as Trout wasn't he a legit champ not some vacant strap holder like GGGs best win, didn't he beat Cotto rather impressively after every praised Cotto for hanging tough vs Mayweather, did he also arguably just beat the new flavor of the month in the Jermall it which ever one just beat Williams. Not saying that makes him elite elite but gives him a better argument than anyone GGG has faced. I don't see how you can bash others comp and ride GGG, if Alvarez KO' d Brook tomorrow at 54 that wouldn't be his best win, if he stopped Lemuiex in 10 rds that wouldn't be his best win either yet those are Golovkin best wins. Mayweather could beat Brook tomorrow and it still wouldn't crack his top 10 wins list.
His chin has been proven so far so we don't know how that fight would go. I take GGG to weather the storm and stop him late. He'd also beat Jackson. Toney, on his best day, would probably beat him. It's hard to guess at this point. Good discussion in a few years though.
I'm not bashing anyone's resume nor am I riding GGG'S. Regarding Mayweather he went to 140 and fought the weakest champion available at the time there was a good few fights he could have got but moved up to 147 to take on Baldomir who let's face it is one of the weakest champions. He stayed at 147, which was weak at the time but "retired" early when the division started heating up. However this thread isn't about Floyd. Trout has 1 decent victory which is Cotto and it is a good win, but other than that he's lost every other big fight. Trout is a good quality operator but there is nothing that makes him special or stand out against fighters who Golovkin has beaten. I'm not saying he's bad but is he really superior to your Lemieux's, your Murray's, etc? As for Angulo I love watching his fights but he's actually fighting at 160 now and has gone 2-2. You have to remember both Cotto and Canelo opted to duck GGG.
I starting to believe that Canelo beats GGG as well. For whatever reason GGG doesn't seem to be keen on facing him.
I thought it was Canelo who gave up his belt to fight the much tougher fighter in Liam Smith? I must have got it all wrong.....
Canelo wanted to be able to call the shots and that wasn't going to happen with a mando. Canelo did the right thing he now offered GGG 15 million and we are still waiting to hear an response.
The fight needs to happen, biggest fight out there imo. As a fan of both fighters, more so GGG, we'll have two elite operators, shed load of money and let the hype begin ASAP. We the fans deserve it.
