You dont have to have the ring IQ of Marquez to box well.

Simply having a good jab can go a long way even without the intelligence of the truly elite technical fighters.

Case in point is Samuel Peters dominance of James Toney in their rematch.
They had just fought a pretty close fight in which most thought Toney beat Peter.
Toney had actually had his way with Peter in the second half of the fight, that going into the rematch, most were picking Toney to win comfortably.

Peter made one simple adjustment and started it in round 1 of the rematch. Instead of trying to headhunt and looking to land big shots as he did in fight 1, Peter came at Toney applying the jab, and pumping it with power.
The jab with moving and hurting Toney that it was preventing him getting off in combination.

If you have a heavy jab and you use it, it disrupts the rhythm of even a superior boxer like Toney.

Canelo has that type of jab and he's going to have to use it to disrupt Mayweathers rhythm and timing.
You get that heavy jab landing on Mayweathers face and he's not going to be so eager to counter it with the straight right he likes to employ.

The heavy jab will set up the right hand with power and open the creeces to go to the body on Mayweather.

The fact that Canelo can fight behind a heavy jab and is naturally bigger as Peter was against Toney, makes this a bonafide task Mayweather has not seen since Castillo.

Only one fighter since Castillo was big enough and capable enough to fight behind the jab, and that was DLH, and we all know of his poor stamina and lack of a right hand.

Mayweather was troubled by DLH's jab, even though he did'nt have to focus on DLH's right hand, as its so weak.

Against Canelo, you're lookiing at having to worry about his right hand, and Canelo is much better equipped to go to the body and work Mayweather on the ropes than DLH ever could.

From my perspective, I'm seeing this Canelo matchup is a real test to Mayweather's boxing skills and acumen.

I'm convinced here that Mayweather did not want this fight, he was forced into it by Showtime who have alot of dollars dangling at Mayweather!

Imo, finally a real challenge and we'll get to see how great a skill level Mayweather really has. :deal

It was a chess match, outside the ring instead of inside the ring.

    This was exactly right.

Canelo needs to fire his training team.
