No matter who he beats, someone will come along and the fans will hop around and say "Now Floyd has to fight THIS GUY before he'll be considered a P4P great."

    Almost feel bad for him...

If Floyd retires right now, he'll still be considered an all time great. Where he gets ranked will be a subject of debate, but he's done enough already to earn a place pretty high up there.

But, how bad does he want that #1 P4P spot? So, in that sense, as long as he's still young and ontop of his game as he currently seems to be, he'll be expected to keep fighting the best.

I don't think he could be #1 of all time simply because of the few fights he had compared to a guy like Robinson. I think that alone would hold him back.

Fret not, Floyd is not retiring. A slight minor alteration to Boinkos statement is that Floyd has a major ego. Not only the fans, but fighters call him out. They talk trash and Floyd will feel like he has to prove himself. I do not believe he is done. However, if he is done, I support that too. If he doesn't "feel" the game anymore, he could get hurt. I am an artist, when I don't feel like doing something (artistically), I stop. You are not the same if you are not into something. And when that thing involves the most dangerous people punching you in the head, give a break, at least for a while. He is only 30, maybe he should go 1 year, sit back with the family, then rethink it. Whatever Floyd decides, he has my support. He has given us many great fights, he does not owe us anything.

great post:thumbsup 20 years of great memories if he calls it a career then I will support that decision going out the way he did against hatton was spectacular.

Yah, that's probably true. But is it fair? No fighter in the modern era is ever going to have as many fights as Robinson.

I know. The politics and money will make sure of that.

I agree with the others who say that Floyd owes us nothing, and has an ATG spot secured. He's had quite a go.

He's still an ATG even if he losses to Cotto so why not keep on fighting??? And a win would vault him even higher on the ATG list. He's in his prime, in perfect shape, had no problems with his hands against Hatton. If he retires now I think he'll regret it.
