Floyd is wrong, Hopkins is definately a great fighter. However, he makes a great point. Hopkins has lost to several good fighters that are his size and all of his best wins were against guys coming up in weight. Hopkins is still great, but you can't call him a legend and then knock Floyd for fighting small guys, when he's only had two good wins from guys coming up in weight(he's had several good wins over bigger opponents as well) compared to 4 good wins from Hopkins over smaller guys and no notable wins from guys his size.

Hopkins didn't lose to Taylor in either fight. He was robbed.

He lost against Jones and he lost against Calzaghe.

    Agreed.

Ps. FMJ & Pac are the best of this era, I might not even put Hopkins 3rd TBH but no denying the man is a great fighter.

Yeah its amazing what happens when you actually fight challenging competition. I guess Ali isn't an ATG either becasue he lost to Ken Norton and Leon Spinks.

No notable wins over guys his size? He's won about 50 fights. :rofl

All his wins were unmentionable besides a handful against apparently smaller men? That's crazy talk. Mayweather is also a complete idiot. He shouldn't be using someone else to defend himself if he feels he's wronged. Just say it straight.

Huge Mayweather fan but he makes a lot of contradictory statements in that interview.

To start he talks about how Manny answers if he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. The interviewer asks Floyd who he wants to fight, he goes I don't know, I have to talk it with my team.

He starts the interview explaining how he's in a lose lose situation in fight scenarios, and that boxing fans won't appreciate his fights. One could conclude that he's not fighting them because it's not worth it for his legacy, right? He then later goes to say he's fighting for the money. Which is it? haha.

Either way, Pac vs May is going to happen. It's probably already a done deal. All this talk right now is just build up... can't wait. My money is on PBF.

How about when Hopkins beat Tarver. After going from MW to LHW???
Hopkins is definately the best of our era.
    Pac-PBF are tied for second.
I know right now people are still high on the Pac victory but once u guys cool off think about what u are saying.

Both Floyd and Manny are above Hopkins.

Mayweather talking **** on Hopkins because Hopkins has been trashing him about not fighting Mosley. Anyway, Hopkins is one of my favorite fighters. However, all of his noteworthy wins were against smaller guys with the exception of Tarver and Johnson(although Johnson was an unknown back then and a much different fighter). His best wins are Tarver, Johnson, Trinidad, Pavlik, Wright, and Hoya. They were all smaller guys except Tarver and Johnson.

He has several nice wins against guys his size, but no one to really hang your hat on. I still consider him great because the reason he fought so many smaller guys was because the MW division was so bare when he was there. However, whoever watched him fight could tell he was great. The point by Mayweather still valid though. Hopkins made his name by beating smaller guys. How can he be considered a legend and then Floyd gets trashed for fighting two smaller guys in his entire career(3 if you count Chavez)?

That's a good post Reg. To me, Hopkins greatness comes from his longevity and consistency, not having a legendary resume. Even though he's still fighting, it seems he's getting the obligatory "resume bump" people give to retired fighters- this became pretty clear to me when he had a significant chunk of the vote for "best resume" on here a while back. Hopkins has stepped up his level of competition over the past few years, but he's also only 3-3 in his last 6 fights as a result of it.

Personally, I think the problems are that Floyd's still fighting, some people are punishing him because they don't like his attitude, and most importantly, it's a "what have you done for me lately" business. Beating Pavlik, Wright, and Tarver all happened recently for Hopkins; Floyd's bigger wins were upstaged by Pac, and outside of that, he hasn't truly tested himself in awhile so it's easy to forget he beat a higher caliber of fighter than Hopkins did over the course of his career in a P4P sense. For the most part, Floyd was the one moving up in weight. It's only recently that he's used his marketing power to go after a couple of smaller men. What he accomplished before 140 doesn't get as much credit as the criticism of fighting smaller men simply because fighting smaller men has been the more recent trend.
