Floyd demonstrates a huge problem in boxing

    There are so few elite fighters and trainers in boxing right now. Now don't get me wrong, there are a few realistic fighters that Floyd should have faced but avoided and that will haunt his legacy forever. He has faced decent comp, but the reality is that the best fighters he could have faced are, for the most part, marginally better than what he faced... and the guys he did face got totally wiped out.

    How many fighters show elite potential? How many elite trainers are there that can really develop a fighter? Sure there are a bunch of guys who are fun to watch... but elite? How many divisions have 3 elite, prime fighters in them?

    I think it is a failure at the amateur level to develop properly. Thoughts?

    The problem isn't with Mayweather.
    The problem is the fans.
    You have to remember, when Ali was fighting 90% of the paying boxing audience hated him. No different for Mayweather.

    Fact: Mayweather is still #1 in the sport, he is boxing's ambassador.

    My point is not about hate... it's about talent and there really isn't much anymore...trainer or fighter. Neither are being developed.

    It's not the fact that we haven't got any elite fighters, far from it, it's that the elite are so spread divisionally right now. You have guys like Inoue (108), Gonzalez (112), Rigo (122), Mayweather (!47/154), Ward (168) and Hopkins (175) and a handful of others but very rarely are they in the same weight class.

    I don't agree. Talent exists. It just isn't being promoted or showcased, unless it originates from the Russian countries.

    Speaking from an American point of view, I point to the lack of Olympic success. Many of the greats were Olympic medalists.

    Cannot remember who Floyd ducked but I can remember a video of him saying that the size of another fighters head meant he was on steroids.

    He then went on to say that he wasn`t willing to risk his life fighting the fighter with the big head as Floyd knew the fighter with the big head would beat the sh it out of him and he didn`t want to die in the ring or be disabled as his family came first and that he was happy to be a rich coward.

    Of course Floyd ducked no one apart from the guy with the big head who Floyd thought would kill him in the ring.

    Then why did he back out of the Delahoya rematch? He retired instead of taking the biggest payday. The sad part is that Floyd would have crushed him... but he ducked/ retired.

    Retired because of an injury

    Went to fight Hatton, who was more relevant at the time for his legacy. Everyone was screaming for the Hatton fight.
