aaaaaaaaaahahhhhhhahahah yeah ****en right but really though, why is it that floyd fans hate every damn boxer that we mention as a possible threat for floyd :huh :huh i guess the last straw was some idiot on here saying that clottey beat margo and that clottey would beat cotto too :rofl :rofl :rofl now i know what comes along with being a solid, loyal fan....but i wanna see guys that i like fight the best and prove themselves time after time again....not just once in their career....honestly, if floyd retires after this 2nd oscar fight, he aint nothing more than a guy that could've, should've BUT WASN'T type of boxer.... floyds timing in the boxing world was/is ****en perfect....times like this that make him look great, for example....gatti and baldomir being champs gives his fans the right to say he beat the champ at 140 and 147 :deal :deal oscar having more pool than anybody on earth gives floyd the right to say he beat the champ at 154..... now imagine if he would've never got that gift against castillo...faced the real solid guys at 140-154.....like kostya, margo, forrest, mosley etc etc......would money may even exist....i say this cause i honestly feel that his timing is ****EN PERFECT.... i honestly feel that his fans hate everybody that's a threat because they're finding it harder and harder to back him up....so all that turns to hate and an easy way out of every ****en arguement that includes floyd in it.... floyd is pimping the sport of boxing for every ****en penny he can, and i really don't mind, but what really bothers me is the lies he tells all the future fans...i think it turns fans away more than anything, sure we'll have high ppv numbers in hopes of seeing him get his ass whooped, but at the end of the day, those same people will never watch another ****en fight again....why ??? cause floyd makes it sound like a crooked soap opera....money this, money that, money money money money....come on with that man, real fans of the sport dont wanna hear that ****en ****, they wanna see you fight the best in the ring and after your actions talke for yourself, then you can do all the talking you want cause it will be BELIEVABLE !!!! on the same note, i love the way floyd has been acting on that show "IRON RING"....he's truly coming along like a classy guy in front of all them mma clowns that think combat sports is a macho thing :good
(cont) Could it be that maybe, juuuust maybe, the almighty Mayweather simply does not want any part of Margarito? "I've had the offer out there for months," says Arum, "and he certainly hasn't responded. So I would say the answer to that is yes." But Mayweather has been dismissive of Margarito's talents when asked about the reigning WBO welterweight titlist. So why the reluctance to face him? "Ken Norton was never on Ali's radar," Arum explained. "So there are some guys that great fighters really don't want to fight because they would give them a lot of difficulty and may lose." Of course it has to be pointed out - and to Ali's credit - that there were three editions of Ali-Norton. It seems that Mayweather may have bought out his contract from Top Rank (for $750,000) a few months ago to avoid Margarito in perpetuity, lest having Arum continually badger him about facing him over and over again. When asked what he thought his former fighter’s options were, Arum stated: "A.B.M. Anybody but Margarito." There is a theory that perhaps Mayweather simply doesn't want to perform under the Top Rank banner, for whatever reason. But Arum says, "There's absolutely no animosity between us and Floyd." The fact that Margarito is having so much difficulty in finding a marquee dance partner is puzzling to Larry Merchant of HBO Sports. "I think that boxing at this level is risk and reward and they want to make sure that the risk is worth the reward. And right now, I think for example, that Mayweather is waiting for the Mosley-Vargas fight and the Gatti-Baldomir fight to see whether Mosley or Baldomir are also in the mix for him and whether he thinks the risk and reward is better for fighting those guys," he says. Merchant continues by saying, "The Winky Wright thing befuddles me because Winky is a bigger guy and a clever boxer and why he would reject $4 million, if that's the case, is mystifying to me. He has a very high opinion of his own worth, which is OK, but I don't know that there are any alternatives out there which either A) he can make as much money or B) would be a more dangerous fight." Word on the street is that Wright is contemplating moving up to face super middleweight kingpin Joe Calzaghe and would have trouble moving back down to 154 pounds anyhow. Ironically, Margarito is in the same position that Wright was in not too long ago. "There have been fighters in the past nobody wanted to fight unless they had to fight, and Winky Wright was one of them," Merchant points out. "When Vargas fought Wright the first time, they were scared to death because Vargas was on track for big money fights and Winky Wright was a dangerous opponent. "And Winky Wright himself had probably been avoided on more than one occasion and we've all seen that. But in this case, what makes it unusual is that he's got a promoter who's putting serious bucks out there to attract an opponent, where Winky didn't have that." As for Mayweather, Merchant opines that, "If Vargas should beat Mosley and Gatti should beat Baldomir, I don't know where Mayweather can go to even make half of what he's apparently been guaranteed to fight Margarito." As for Margarito, Arum, who hasn't had much in the way of 'Plan B' in 2006 for Margarito says, "As soon as next week when I get back I'm going to go ahead and make a fight between Margarito and (Carlos) Quintana." The crafty Puerto Rican southpaw recently handled the highly touted Joel Julio on the most recent edition of HBO's 'Boxing After Dark'. The bout would take place on October 7th as part of a pay-per-view telecast. It's pretty obvious that right now Margarito is not an enticing option for the game blue chip boxers between 147-154. In the absence of getting the Mayweathers, Mosleys, Vargases and Wrights, will Top Rank now focus in on keeping Margarito as busy as possible, exposing him to as many eyeballs as possible, and promoting him into a marketable commodity that will then be worth the risk? "Absolutely," says Arum. But it has to be pointed out that Top Rank has dropped the ball in recent years in this regard. 2000 was the last year in which Margarito has fought more than twice over a calendar year, with long, protracted layoffs in between each outing. Margarito, who's been lost in the shuffle as Arum's company focused in on the likes of De La Hoya, Mayweather and Erik Morales, to a large degree has been under-promoted. Nobody can build a fighter/attraction like Arum. Many consider him to be one of the last of the real, true, independent promoters. But in this instance, he has neglected one of his own properties. Trotting out someone, anyone for that matter, twice a year isn't a way to build up or push a product. It looks like once again that in 2006, Margarito will be relegated to just a couple of bouts. He's still only 28, but a few prime years have already been squandered. So what makes Arum think he can get Margarito more active in this ever-tightening marketplace? "Don't worry, don't worry," he says, "I'll be opening up a lot of new, important venues in different parts of the world in the next few months and they'll be plenty of spots for him to fight and we're not dependent on necessarily what has been the traditional dates on either HBO or Showtime." When asked about how he feels he's been dealt with by his promotional company, Margarito answers: "When it comes to Mayweather, I do believe they've done and tried to make this fight happen by offering that big amount of money. You're talking about $8 million and I did notice how Bob was trying to be a little bit polite, businesslike, didn't want to turn Mayweather away in order to try to make this fight. But after, I noticed how he did speak to the paper from Grand Rapids, which is Mayweather’s hometown and came about and said this guy’s a fraud and doesn't want to fight Antonio, he's afraid to fight Antonio. “But when it comes to Plan B, I don't think they've done enough. I believe that Top Rank should be doing a little bit more for me. I believe I am the best welterweight in the world and I'm willing to show it against anyone out there. But I need my promoter to make these fights happen. I need a Plan B to be a big Plan B, not another fight for me to keep busy. I want to fight the best." So is a bout against Quintana a suitable contingency in his mind? “I’m glad they're talking about October 7 and now that I'm hearing it's a pay-per-view, that's great," says Margarito, whose record stands at 33-4 with 24 KO's. "When it comes to the opponents, I don't know anything about Quintana. I did see him fight, and it's not really an opponent that I'd like to fight, but I will face anyone. I will fight Quintana if I have to face him. "Right now, there isn't anything concrete; my people need to sit down with Top Rank and to come out with a gameplan." Diaz says he and his fighter will be making a trip to the desert. “Antonio and I will be in Vegas next week so we can sit down with Top Rank." And they'll have a lot to discuss - except a Mayweather fight of course.
Its cool that ur bothered by Floyd! But don't u understand that you feed right into his plan... The man doesn't have a fight planned until September and yet his name is in the mix everyday on this site.. Whether its a love post or hate post.... Mayweathers name being mentioned is constant publicity..... Bad publicity is publicity.... Technically your promoting Mayweather just by making these post... This is what he wants...He is Boxings 50 cent in that matter... They use controversy to keep there names relevant even when they are doing nothing in their respective careers... Why would a Fan say that someone can beat their favorite fighter....? doesn't that defeat the purpose of being a fan... I would say that there are people that will definitely give Floyd a fight and then there are those that have little to no chance... I don't hate any of the fighters people pick to beat Floyd.. I actually like some of them, but Im just giving an honest opinion on the next hyped fighter that can supposedly beat floyd...He won't win!
Is Floyd Hiding from Margarito? Reported By: Boxing Insider - 04.19.2006 09:15 AM Lets Get Credit.com - Bad Credit? No Credit? NO Problem - Get Your Credit Card Now! - 100's of New Offers! Is Floyd Hiding from Margarito? By Scoop Malinowski "Once you win the psychological fight, the physical fight is easy." The stage is set for a spectacular showdown superfight on August 12th in Las Vegas - unbeaten pound-for-pound icon Floyd Mayweather vs. the relentless, powerful and intelligent Antonio Margarito. All systems are go, says the promoter of this event Bob Arum. But there's one major holdup. Floyd Mayweather, the man who says he "ducks and dodges no one", who said Margarito is just an "average fighter", has not signed his $8 million-plus contract yet. Wait a minute. What is going on here? The almighty Mayweather hesitating to sign a contract which would be his career-high payday? "It makes dollars and it makes sense", right Floyd? Has Mayweather's bluff of boasting himself as the best of the best been called? Has the threatening determination and quiet confidence and presence of Margarito injected fear and intimidated Mayweather into hiding? "I'm still trying to make (the fight)," said Arum in a Boxingtalk.com intervew. "It all rests now on the shoulders of Floyd Mayweather." Arum, like many boxing writers and fans believes Mayweather vs. Margarito is THE FIGHT. "It is an interesting match," says Arum, who's been promoting boxing for 40 years. "A lot of people feel that Margarito is the one welterweight in town who could beat Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather. I would love for the fight to happen. And there's a helluva lot of people who can't wait to see it." Perhaps with the exception of Floyd Mayweather and his entourage. Their curious hesitancy is sending off vibes of reluctance. When asked to specify a reason why Floyd would not fight Margarito, Arum would only say, "That question is better addressed to Floyd than it is to me." Arum, like the rest of us - even Floyd's closest allies in the media, expect Mayweather to eventually sign the contract that has been sent to him. I mean, what possible, reasonable excuse can Mayweather come up with to turn down $8 million? "The fight will be part of a big summer pay-per-view that we're working on shortly. The only roadblock is the John Hancock from Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather. We've offered him $8 million plus upside, so now it's up to him and his people to decide whether they truly want to fight Margarito." One could only wonder what is being said behind closed doors at the Mayweather mansion. I believe the true opinions of Floyd and uncle Roger are at total contrast to the defaming and slanderous public comments both have made against Margarito in the past year. If Mayweather finally does come clean and sign the contract for Arum, whom he has called "the best promoter of all-time" ('I love Bob Arum."), we could witness on August 12 a great fighter being forced to take his extraordinary talents to an unprecedented, most sublime level yet. Will the speed, saavy and technical perfection of Mayweather be able to control and offset the hungry, vicious pressure and atomic sharpshooting of the much taller and powerful Margarito? Or will this be the much anticpated breakout fight, the commencement of the new Mexican superstar campeon, Antonio "The Silent Assasin" Margarito? As one great boxing mind says, "Once you win the psychological fight, the physical fight is easy." Actually the fight between Mayweather and Margarito has already begun. And right now Floyd is clearly losing the psychological fight with his inconsistent actions and strange reluctance to commit to fighting Margarito on August 12. Like Tommy Burns ducking Jack Johnson, Mike Tyson paying $4 million in step-aside money to Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones trying to evade Antonio Tarver, Evander Holyfield making Lennox Lewis wait over a year, I believe Floyd Mayweather, student of the game and a keen boxing mind, already knows what will happen if he climbs into the ring with Antonio Margarito
Think you need to look up definition of a gift, I had it to Floyd as did many others. Lets see: Kostya - beat the man who beat him (Hatton), Kostya was outboxed by Mitchell at times, PBF wouldnt get caught and would win wide imo Margo - tough fight in the mold of Hatton/Castillo but Margo is wide open to counters and is very predicatable and is slow. Mayweather would win but would have tough moments Mosley - Mosley has a very poor defense and Floyd would capitalise on this. Mosley does have the speed but his punches are not very compact and what he does can be telegraphed making Mayweather the favourate to roll and counter Mosley. Mosley would have his moments but the better technical fighter wins Forrest - Forrests jab would cause more problems than any of the above. This is possibly the toughest match up for Floyd but I'd still pick him over Forrest All tough match ups but Mayweather wins them all but some would be close.
Margo - tough fight in the mold of Hatton/Castillo but Margo is wide open to counters and is very predicatable and is slow. Mayweather would win but would have tough moments Maybe, but Floyd DID duck Margarito.
ive come to think this is what floyd wants to do and accept it because its pretty smart.. next fight -fight oscar for 20+ million (as opposed to probably less than what he would get for fighting cotto or any1 else for that matter) - cotto builds name & resume next fight- hatton in wimbledon for 20+ mil (as opposed to probably less than what he would get for fighting cotto or any1 else for that matter) - cottos name is built next fight- cotto - retirement... makes sense financially
Who gives a ****? PBF beats them all he would be favored over any fighter in the world from 154 and down.:deal
At that time don't we now know that Mayweather was fed up with Arum taking money out of his pocket and not fully paying him!!!! He split with Arum around the same time This content is protected , he asked for a $10 million guarantee to fight opponents such as Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, when Arum was only willing to guarantee $7 million. This content is protected "That's not in the cards," Arum said. " This content is protected Ellerbe said Mayweather opted for the buyout so he could be "more in control of when and who he fights next. It's as simple as that. There is nothing bad between Floyd and Bob." Arum agreed that the split with Mayweather was not on bad terms like their brief breakup last year. In fact, Arum said, "We intend to be back together. Everything with this was honorable and good. I had offered him numbers [for a multi-fight contract extension] that were livable. His expectations are in the stratosphere. He was entitled to buy me out, and he did. We decided this was the best way to handle it. He is a free agent. We have agreed to work with each other [in the future]." The split frees Mayweather to make a potential deal with De La Hoya without Arum as part of the promotion. His involvement would have made making a deal almost impossible: The head of Top Rank has openly feuded with De La Hoya, his former superstar, and their companies rarely do business together as a result.
