Nope, the Cotto and Mosley fights would have sold a lot less without Canelo, but you already know this.

Canelo didn't need Mayweather to raise his profile. Canelo was already on Mexican TV before he even signed with Golden Boy. Canelo's fans are mostly Latino whereas I suspect Mayweather's fans are mostly American. Canelo didn't benefit from being on Mayweather's PPV because he already had a fan base and didn't gain many of Mayweather's fans after being on the undercard.:yep

In the end it probably did more for Berto's career. Perhaps, a favor to Haymon. Berto would have been competitive with any other welter that night, given the shape he was in and the way he got up for this fight.

I was in the house for the so-called last fight. And it was a good crowd. Place looked to be almost full, by the main event. I was so gone off the liquor at that point, I may have been seeing two of each person, though. Haha. The Brits came out to support Groves and were keeping it lively...until he took an 'L'.

I met Steve Farhood while my wife and I were having breakfast at the MGM. Cool dude. He asked me did I go to fight. When I answered "yes", he was like..."Typical Floyd, right?" I chuckled.

I overheard Farhood and another person discussing the likelihood of Floyd returning for a 50th fight. And Al Bernstein's theory (based on some inside info) is that it would be a PPV fight under Comcast/NBC...something like that. My eavesdropping game is not the greatest. But, I think that's what I heard. Obviously the outcome of Cotto/Canelo, the availibility of Manny Pacquioa, and who comes out on top of the next generation (Brook, Thurman, Porter, Khan, DSG, etc) will determine who the opponent will be.

That's funny especially considering Canelo got a career high payday and his highest PPV ever with PBF. He won't even sniff that with Cotto.:hi:
PBF didn't need Cotto he was making megapdays when Canelo was still wet behind the ear.:deal

It was also Mayweather's career high payday at the time as well. According to your logic, that means Mayweather needed Canelo raise his own profile?:think

Edit: Cotto/Canelo will do over 1 million easy. I think it may go as high as 1.5 million which isn't too far off of what Canelo/Mayweather did. Also, Canelo is still very young so it is no surprise his fight with Mayweather was his biggest payday. He still has plenty of time to surpass his payday for the Mayweather fight.:deal

I don't really care either way but from same Iole article "Another source close to the promotion of the fight said the figure was higher and estimated it between 500,000 and 550,000"

His guarantee is $32M. He doesn't get ppv upside because there wasn't any upside with the numbers they put up.

I don't think he's losing sleep over it. He'll probably get a little something.

    Because he is THE PROMOTER.

Without doubt, he'd be getting nowhere near $32mill.
