These observations are a bit late, as the Maidana fight was weeks ago, but here's my assessment of that fight and Floyd's career, generally. Floyd Mayweather has made some very telling statements around the time of the Marcos Maidana fight and at other times that indicate he doesn't share the same priorities as virtually all other fighters. Just prior to the Maidana fight, Floyd expressed concern over "getting a concussion" from Marcos Maidana's power. You never, ever, give your opponent that psycological edge - of verbalizing your fear of their advantages. Another damning statement Floyd has made (around the time of the Guererro fight) was in response to criticisms that he doesn't go for the finish once he's outclassed his opponent. Floyd, who takes out large bets on himself, said "I'm not going to jeapordize my big payday with unnecessary risks at the end of the fight". And there you have his true priorities: no risk-maximum reward. Floyd talks the talk, speaks the language of 'dawg'. He often states how he's going to knock out so-and-so. How gullible does he think we are? I've noticed in the last few years that boxing pundits no longer offer up the Floyd-knockout scenario any more while they're tossing around possible outcomes to his scheduled fights. They KNOW Floyd will no longer take such risks -the risks that come with committing to a devastating offensive game. And for that, Floyd can never wear the same mantle of 'champion' that Leonard, Hearns, Holyfield, Ali and many others wore; you know, those people Floyd insists aren't the same calibur as he. All of the all-time-greats, even the defense-oriented ones, had times when they threw caution to the wind after smelling blood in the water, and went after a stunned opponent to dispatch a guy. Floyd won't take his arms from the defensive stance long enough to execute such an attack; he's an anal-retentive, safety-first, long-distance pot-shotter. Yes - in terms of safety-first pot-shotters, Floyd is THE best there ever was. But in terms of sheer boxing greatness, that simply DOES NOT spell a legacy of greatness and supremecy. For Floyd is not in the 'hurt' business, as virtually all other fighters are. He's not even in the 'pain' business. Floyd's strictly in the point-scoring business. When the greats of old smelled blood, they went for the kill. Floyd, in his ultra-evasive/elusive style, will not take the same chances in finishing off opponents that they took. Floyd avoids this at all costs, for his intense fear of finding himself out of position or off-balance - the kinds of things that result by throwing full-body-commit punches. Floyd throws strictly arm punches. And in the low-low weight classes, these were sufficient to get the T.K.O. But now in the big-leagues, these will no longer dispatch anyone, and Floyd knows this. Boxing writers know this. Stephen A. Smith once lamented that it was only by God's mercy [for all their opposition] that He didn't give both Floyd Mayweather and Pernell Whitaker heavy hands. But Smith was way-off: it is the evade-at-all-costs style of these men that prohibits them from committing fully to an offense that puts men on their backs. So Floyd needs to quit talking the talk. He needs to put a lid on how he will be 'looking for the knockout' (the way he said of Canelo Alvarez). He needs to be honest: "I'm going to run up the scores against this guy -so much so, i'll get to dance away the final round", he should say. Because that's what Floyd has always did: when he piled up a ton of points long-distance pot-shotting all night, he would take off the final 1-2 rounds. Fans paid for an entire fight only to see this anal-retentive non-combattant seal his victory by....running. 'Ballerina Jackrabbit' is what Floyd is. For he's light-footed and graceful as a ballerina, fleet-footed and evasive like a flushed jackrabbit. And just to keep the point-counter tallying, he uses his extreme reach to pot-shot his opponent during his 12-round stanza on the backwards treadmill. The Greatest? GTFO. One word comes to mind: 'Clown'. Dancin' Clown. Jibber-jabbing, shuckin'-and-jivin', fradey-cat clown. Even when his career just barely started, Floyd affirmed the sentiments I'm detailing here to the HBO crew. Floyd's knockout days are long, long over. If we look back prior to the sucker-punch-while-apoligizing knockout of Victor Ortiz, we are reminded of the Hatton fight, where Floyd got to double-team Ricky Hatton with his well-coerced, bought-and-paid-for assistant in the ring - Joe Cortez. We saw Floyd get the TKO in that fight, but almost nobody speaks of how it was the high-velocity collision into the turnbuckle -not Floyd's power- the put Hatton in serious danger. Watch it in slow motion; watch the torque of the impact, and you'll see what I mean. All credit to Floyd - getting his opponent to knock HIMSELF out. Call it, 'effective evasiveness'. Floyd stated he could've made the Maidana fight alot easier, and he was referring to whas the shameful indictment I've detailed here: that he can put the fans asleep doing a fleet-footed, pot-shotting, chicken-chase exhibition. He knows he could send fans prematurely to the exits with another Baldomir performance. But such a financially-savvy business man he is, he knows this would be like career suicide, especially after he always 'talks up a fight' prior to said fights. But Floyd's clown-career is just about over, and his gawd-awful style will all but guarentee his precious undefeated record -the one he hangs his identity and ego upon - will stay pristine, where he can ride off into the sunset as the most boring and forgettable undefeated fighter boxing has ever known. So Floyd, it's high-time to stop talkin the talk. Stop spouting the language of 'dawg'. Stop calling yourself a 'fighter', rather a 'point-scorer'. It is then -and only then- you'll get the respect you 'deserve'. Stop lying about 'giving the fans what they want to see'. If you were as great as you boasted, you could give them a truly great show, but you're not, and you can't, because your style is both ugly and gawd-awful, and only -ONLY- translates to victories ON PAPER.
Too much didn't read but we all know Fraud is a coward. A fighter that say my health come first. That's like a swimmer that's afraid he'll get get drown.
Nicely written. Many of the points you made are why I rate someone like James Toney much higher than Floyd, he didn't even NEED his feet to move around the ring, he could just stand in front of someone and destroy them without having to "get in and get out." Never mind that he didn't cherry-pick. It trips me out when people get on here before a Floyd fight and talk about how Floyd's gonna score a KO, hahahahahaha.
Calling a professional boxer a coward, who has been a champion in 5 weight classes over the course of 16 years as a professional, from behind your computer screen and keyboard. Classic. You should re-evaluate your definition of "coward." I'd start by looking in the mirror if I was you. When you post a video of you going to the Mayweather Gym and calling Floyd out for being a "Fradey-Cat" and daring him to get in the ring with you for an ass whipping, maybe we can take your word a little more seriously. Fact: Anybody who calls a professional boxer a coward, "Fradey-Cat," or other disrespectful names like that, are essentially the biggest bitches on this message board. Total punks and FAKE ASS BOXING FANS. And that goes for ANY PROFESSIONAL, not just Mayweather.
You are wasting your time. All the keyboard warriors have is jealusy and anger. It is funny but it gets old. Let their anger and hate eat them from within.
Yep none of these tough guys would last a round with PBF and would be crying after the first body shot that landed. If PBF is a coward then what does that say about the 45 men that he beat? They got beat by a coward who runs around the ring playing tag.:rofl They must all be **** then. Guys like Hernadez, Chico, JLC 2x, Oscar, Mosley, Hatton, JMM Canelo, Cotto Zab and Maidana just all suck. What the thread starter's post reeks of is sour grapes the reality is starting to set in that PBF will retire 49-0 undefeated and that he can't come to grips that none of his heroes could beat a coward that dominated the sport for almost 20 years.
"I'm not going to jeapordize my big payday with unnecessary risks at the end of the fight". This is the most telling quote. It shows that he fully understands his drawing power is because of the "0".
Spoken like a true Floyd nut-hugger. As soon as the nut-hugger's gay idol gets criticized, the gay nut-hugger barks nonsense like an angry little puppy.
Rarely do we get to read on this forum such a rational article that echoes what most fans feel, and written with such eloquence. Your grammar is impeccable.
