Because they never fought...you assume they would beat Floyd? I seem to recall Forest losing to Mayorga and Sergio Mora, what he did to vMosley has no bearing on a fight with Floyd

I think it was actually FMJ who called Wright out, in 2005. Subsequently, Gary Shaw and Bob Arum worked on the deal, which would eventually fall through. Shaw pointed at Top Rank having changed the money-split, at the eleventh hour, being the cause.

Maybe, maybe not, Mayorga had no problem with his jab.

I agree with the op. There just aren't many fighters with high ring IQ's to hang with Floyd in or around his division. Seems from the 80's on up to present day most are becoming less and less skillful. Maidana meshed well with Floyd because Garcia untapped Chino's potential. You never saw Maidana jab or use any defensive before, showed more skill thsn Pacquiao Imo. Did more with less. Brook seems like the only WW at the moment to beat Floyd. Floyd would be in trouble with a prime Oscar or Mosley, even more with a Donald Curry or Starling.

Wasn't Floyd pretty much a 140 lbs fighter when the fight was talked about taking place at 154 lbs?

 Berto tried to and got countered in-between the jabs.
Theres more to a punch than just throwing it. Speed, power and timing play a key role.
Berto proved that boxings best weapon is useless if you dont know how to use it.

I have always said it's gonna take someone with a great Jab to beat him. ala a Vernon Forrest. The thing is though. Mayweather's ring IQ is so high, that if you have success with a punch he tends to adjust and take it away. For instance. ODLH had success with the jab and people said why did he just stop. He didn't just stop, Mayweather adjusted and began countering over the Jab taking it away from him. The fact his IQ was so high to go along with his speed and incredible reach, the only fighter I can think of in the last 15 years or so, that had the size, style and IQ to do anything was... Well Forrest, and he was always 2 weight classes above.

Winky Wrights last fight at 154 was in I believe 2004/2005, Floyd didn't leave the 140 division until 2005/2006 and didn't fight Oscar at 154 until 2007. Never close to the same weight class. Always 14 or so lbs apart

I heard countless trainers shout out the instruction to double and triple the jab against slick fighters like Mayweather and Hopkins. Remember when Loew was asking Pavlik to double the jab against BHop. Problem with this strategy is that you have to be in position to fire off the double and triple jab and that is harder said than done.

Against an older Mayweather who doesn't move as much this might have some success as Floyd prefers to be set more with his feet planted looking to counter. Against prime Mayweather with his constant movement it wouldn't work for long as shown in his fight with De La Hoya. Even landing the first jab got harder for Oscar and once Mayweather has your jab timed you can forget about doubling or tripling up unless you have a truly great jab like Hearns.
