LAS VEGAS -- Former two-time lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo three times failed to make the 135-pound weight limit Friday, rendering his much anticipated rematch with champion Diego Corrales a non-title bout.

The fight will still go on Saturday night (Showtime PPV, 9 ET) at the Thomas & Mack Center but it will be a 12-round non-title fight. If Corrales loses, he retains his unified titles.

Castillo, who was drawn and appeared drained, weighed 137 pounds on his first try. Given two hours to make weight, he returned to the scale outside at Caesars Palace an hour later and weighed 138½pounds. He was the same weight on his third attempt.

Corrales, who won the first bruising fight on May 7 with a miraculous 10th-round TKO after being knocked down twice, was 135 pounds on his first attempt.

Because Castillo failed to make weight, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Marc Ratner fined him the maximum 10 percent of his $1.2 million purse, or $120,000. Half of that will be added to Corrales' $2 million purse, and the other $60,000 will be paid to the commission.

I did not read the part where the fight suddenly becomes a catchweight fight because castillo did not make weight, or how about it automatically becomes a fight at the higher division? Educate me once again. I am sure I can dig some more fights where the other fighter failed to make weight despite the 2 hours period.

Nothing can be done now about what-could-have-beens. The never-ending blame game sucks.

The best in WW now are Pacquiao and Mayweather. Let's just see them fight after Pacquiao disposes Marquez.

How dare you make a thread like this about Floyd? Don't you know Mosley was a demi-god when Floyd beat him?

Either way Floyd would have won. Floyd looks for money opportunities. He's an "entertainer" but other fighters are just fighters so they fight whatever the fans want.

First off in 2006 Margarito wasnt ****!!! Judah was undisputed and Baldmoir was the champ.

2007 I agree but you cant fault him for fighting Hatton (p4p top 10) or DLH!

    2008- didnt fight

2009 I dont see how Pac was the guy to beat when he fought DLH who wasnt a WW:huh:huh

2010- Mosley was lineal champ from beating Mosley

    2011- agree

    2012- May Lineal champ again

    ***** being schooled!

By the way...*****s will always be on denial!

they were jumping for joy and saying it was a clear shot! legit etc!

but there is NO WAY that they can defend that it's a KO fight of the Year!

****in' *****S celebrating a CHEAP SHOT VICTORY!!!! Pac fans will be DISGUSTED and ASHAMED if PACQUIO wins by KO via CHEAP SHOT!

Big diffence between *****S and PAC fans indeed!

Funny Pac hasn't face top competition in each weight class either... he fough JMM and got whopped twice, Then Hatton coming off a shaky fight, AM after a suspect fight after a year off, Fresh off of a loss Mosley, DLH weight drained and David Diaz....so who in boxing is actually fighting top competition and really who is relevant you went back five years to fighters that have either been suspended, beat up, stopped in a fight or are no longer a factor....
