Floyd has not yet had a career defining fight!

Yep, although I rate his win against Judah much higher than most people do. Its by far his most underated performance IMO, because of the adaptations he made in walking him down and showing the poise he did.

Anyways, I don't agree with the posters here that think Cotto is just another supposed challenge to Mayweather (not adressed to you, just don't want to make two posts). Its clear as day that he is Mayweather's calling card to greatness in these higher weight classes.

I try to stay as objective as possible with Floyd. I'm not one of his biggest fans, but whenver I see him fight, I'm always awed by his talent. If he utterly schools Cotto in '09, the same way Hopkins did Trinidad, I will be converted from a sometime critic to a huge fan in the span of one night. Berto and the rest are from a different generation that needs to create legacies among themselves.

Hernandez, Corrales, Castillo II, De La Hoya. More or less memorable in different ways, but absolutely "career defining". Cotto would be a crowning achievement.

Man, I don't know. Mayweather held every stylistic advantage over Hatton that he could, including a size disparity. Against Corrales, it was nearly the opposite, and he pitched a perfect game. To me, thats greatness.

I certainly agree with this. I said a while back that a win over Cotto would be equivlant to, or maybe even better than, Leonard's win over Duran. Duran was clearly not at his best in the rematch. I think Mayweather beating a peak Cotto who has some important stylistic advantages over Mayweather would be more impressive.

Clearly you don't know the background of what happened to Duran before the rematch with Leonard

Floyd is simply head & shoulders above everyone he fights. The only way he'd get a "defining" fight is if he broke his arm midfight and KO's his opponent.

I agree, Carrales looked unstoppable up until the Mayweather fight.

This is bull****. Look at some other guys regarded as ATGs and their "defining" wins.

Larry Holmes's "defining" wins were against a relatively untested (and inactive) Gerry Cooney and an aging Ken Norton.

Alexis Arguello's "defining" wins were against an aging, 2 weight classes above his best Ruben Olivares and Alfredo Escalera.

What is Jack Dempsey's "defining" win? Jess Willard? Luis Firpo?

What about Pernell Whitaker? Azumah Nelson, who did **** all above 130? The draw with J.C. Chavez, who did **** all above 140?
