Severly underrated? Really? Saying "underrated" is one thing, but severely underrated? Are you kidding? Let's see...he hit Gatti about 1,000 times, yet aside from the 1st round sucker punch, couldn't put him down. He tagged Baldomir over and over and over, yet couldn't hurt him. Do I need to mention JMM? But nah, you're right, Jacory..."severely underrated power" sounds about right in describing Floyd.
:rofl Does this go with Gatti - Bigger/stronger? "On the verge" of stopping Judah? "COULD HAVE" stopped JMM? :rofl Wow - You really backed you original post up. Floyd was "on the verge" of becoming the dominant 147lber and fighter of the decade until someone else actually went out and did it!
Not being an ******* but... Marquez wasn't even knocked out by Manny in technicality... so although the difference in power is immense between the two, there's some grey area in your assumption... as Manny hits hard as ****. Just saying..
All fighters with bad hands (Mayweather included) have deceptive power. On the rare occasions when they throw full force, it catches the opponent off guard after being pitty patted all fight.
So what. What good is power if you are too scared to use it. If he did committ to his punches more and punch harder he would beat up his opponents worse but he would also get hit a lot more in return. He wouldn't be the same fighter.
Speed= power what an idiotic statement. Tell that to Malignaggi. Whitaker was a great fighter with amazing speed, but average power. Floyd also has average power and he doesn't throw combinations anymore so it is surprising when he knocks out anyone at this point.
I thought Nazim Richardson in that video on a thread from the other day made the best observation about Floyd in terms of speed/power - It's his amazing timing that REALLY gives him the edge in a lot of his fights. His timing is utterly superb. I now look forward to Jacory's "Mayweather: The Best Timing In The Sport of Boxing" thread.
