Listen up haters, fighters like Willie pep, Pernell Whitaker, Wilfred Benitez, Chris Byrd ( just to name a few), all was defensive fighters as well but all were knocked down or stopped in their career and Floyd hasn't.
I think PBF actually does have a pretty good chin. His defense is too good, and he is too careful for us to make a through assessment, but from the times I've seen him get nailed, he took it relatively well, i.e., he didn't go down like RJJ.
To the best of my knowledge, Floyd's only been dropped once legitimately, by Judah...And that was a flash knockdown as a result of a perfect counter delivered by one of the better punchers at welterweight. (I count this as a legit kd, but am certainly not inclined to count the Famaso kd since Flod didn't go down as a result of a punch in that fight.) Floyd was wobbled by Corley (who wasn't a bad puncher at all, really), but recovered nicely and won going away. He was stung by Judah, but came back to dominate that fight. Mosely rocked him pretty badly in the second round...And Floyd came back to win every other second of the fight from that point on. The same would apply if you thought Hatton staggered PBF in the first round of their fight (I'm more inclined to think that Mayweather was thrown off balance by the bull rush, but whatever...Hatton wasn't nearly as bad a fighter and a puncher people seem to think he is these days.) And in all those instances, Floyd either stayed in the pocket for sizeable portions of the fight, or actually applied pressure. I don't think he would have done that had he not had confidence in, and the abilty to, withstand his opponent's punches. He's been in against some big punchers in the past. N'dou, Corrales, Castillo, Sosa could all bang to some extent. So could Judah, and even DLH, too. Floyd's only been down one time (when his hand brushed the canvas after he took that shot from Judah.) So, while I wouldn't be inclined to claim that it's the best chin in boxing, I think his abilty to take a shot and recover remains one of Floyd's more underrated attributes.
if best chin means not going down easily after repeated heavy hits, then floyd doesn't qualify because his defensive skills prevents that from happening. the post would have titled best defense in boxing.
I agree. Floyd may have a good chin, but there's too few times he got hit cleanly. Certainly he has an excellent defense, reason for rarity of getting clocked cleanly--but, saying he has the best chin in boxing is reaching very far.
a younger Mosley Hit DLH really hard and DLH`s legs did not bend like Mayweather`s leg when Mosley hit him.
Floyd has a weak chin that his superb defence has kept hidden. If Martinez or Pacquiao clip him clean, those 'Glass Legs' will shatter.
