Floyd retired giving up that spot which paved the way for Cotto, However the Floyd boys insist Margarito has cheated his entire career some ask why wouldnt he also cheat in the Cotto fight which was the biggest fight of his career they use that to dis credit any victory Margarito has.
However when you argue who is the man to beat they immediatley tend to argue that Margarito didnt cheat for the Cotto fight, and the reason for this is because if they say he did, basicly it means Tonys win over Cotto is Void, meaning the only man to really beat Miguel would be Manny Pacquiao... and we dont want to even say Manny is the man to beat now do we?
truth is Manny is the man to beat, Floyd fans argue that Margarito cheated in that fight unless we are talking about Floyd then they change up and why? cus Floyd has a win over Mosley now who did knock the **** out of Margarito....
But I will state it just as they did, Tonys win over cotto has a huge question mark on it and one should void that win.... meaning with Floyd retired, Manny is the man to beat at the moment.... live with it.

WHat part of Hopkins was P4P #1 when he fought Oscar don't you understand? you said Oscar was ranked ahead of Hopkins when they fought and I proved you wrong.

You have to earn the right to be called the man in any weight division, you don't just get it by default because someone else retired.

Since Mayweather retired, Cotto fought Margarito which if we're ignoring leaves Jennings, some bloke off Stallone's tv show and Clottey.

He had no big fight to earn it so he shouldn't be called it, now Mosley did earn it because he beat Margarito fairly.

I think if you retire and come back without the lineal title being taken then you should just carry on with it, it would solve a lot of problems.

Boxing doesn't belong to 1 guy.

You bow out, it's at your own expense.

I'm not saying it does belong to one guy, what I'm saying is when it comes to the lineal title which isn't even regulated officially, if someone retires and comes back a year down the line with nobody stepping in to be considered the man in that division, then it makes sense for the original champion to still be considered it.

If for example someone said they retiring when they were lineal champion and changed their mind 2 months later, would they still be considered the champ because they haven't really been away? What about if they announced their retirement in the heat of the moment and changed their mind 2 days later, would they still be the champion then?

That would make sense back in the golden era, but we're dealing with one of the worst times for titles to have 0 credibility.

No lineal title is ACTUALLY a lineal title anymore.

same question could apply where if a champion retires and decides to return to the ring after 10years, would you still consider him as "the" champion? it really boils down on biases you know...

Exactly and Cotto fought Margarito days after Floyd retired and since Cotto already held a win over Mosley that made him #1
However Margarito took the spot with the win over Cotto.... But at the same time Floyd fans dispute that win due to Margarito being caught with loaded gloves...
So its a case of rewinding a bit, Cotto already had a win over Mosley the man who did beat Margarito.... so by default and by Floyds choice Cotto became #1
since the Margarito fight, Cotto lost to Manny who also later went on to defeat top contendors and destroying two common opponents that Floyd does share with Manny...
in the end its not about your opinion or mine, its about whats happening and right now a fight sure isnt happening....
and the fight not happening is at the hands of Floyd

If you say so. The middleweight title is lineal.

Trust me, floyd not fighting cotto in 08 is one of my biggest knocks against him.

Even if he would have won, the version of cotto that beat Mosley was on fire.

All I am saying at this point if Floyd backs out its obvious he doesnt want to fight, all of his terms have been agreed on its now on him to come through and back up his own words

You can say that, but after hagler lost to leonard it was dropped.

No title is actually lineal anymore, man. come on.

There are too many disconnects throughout the long history of boxing to actually consider any of the titles lineal.

They're only worth the people fighting for them.
