I have no doubt should Floyd when his next two fights, he will fight a 50th time to break that record. Retiring for good at 50-0. Even if he did retire at 49-0 his 49-0 record should be rated higher then Marciano because of the weight classes he climbed to get it. I know Floyd is in the top 50 ATG list. Not sure what number, but what ever it is, i'm sure after breaking that record it will bring him closer to the top 20 on the list.
I'm a self confessed Marciano detractor but let's not pretend Rocky was a legitimate heavyweight and that Floyd's weight climbing, whilst impressive mean more than it does. He was far too small for the division but was still successful. That should be taken into account when assessing his legacy.
Your right I didn't take that into account. His size could be a determined factor why Floyd wouldn't be rated higher then him, but I guess that would depend on who's doing the judging based off of accomplishments.
Floyd should be at least 50-0 by now if it wasn't for all of his vacations. If Floyd fights top opposition, I think he will lose within the next 3 fights.
That's true. I could be wrong about this, but I think Floyd would be the first to move up five weight classes and retire undefeated. Or is there another who have done more weight classes?
Agreed. FLoyd will need to pick his next opponent extra carefully. PPV numbers continue to drop for his fights and based on his last performance his next fight will do even less, unless he challenges himself(which more than likely will NOT happen).:deal
Nobody in their right mind would rank Marciano above Mayweather when assessing their all time accomplishments. That's coming from an Italian-American whose family that raised me were all Marciano guys. Marciano didn't fight a contender until I think it was his 30th fight. And didn't fight consecutive contenders until or right before he vowed for the actual title. He only fought a maximum of 10 "contenders/champs/former champs" in his whole career and as most point out, they were far from their prime. Even further from their prime than the future HOF'ers that Floyd faced through his career. Oddly enough, both Marciano and Floyd face that same vocal detraction from fans of facing aged greats as opposed to prime greats. In all honesty, Floyd's career probably surpassed Rocky's career right before he fought Oscar.
Who would be the top 3 three oppositions? Please don't mention GGG or ward because Floyd is barely making 154lbs.
Khan, Bradley, Pacquiao Garcia, Brook and Thurman depending on how they get on in their next few fights.
For the record, I think these guys all have a chance of beating the current Floyd and all would have lost to Floyd of about 3 years ago.
If that is the case for Marciano, who is ranked #14 on the ATG list according to ESPN. Floyd would be knocking on the door of the top 10 ATGs.
