As said, great fighter but a poor career above 140 given his talents and plaudits he receives from some quarters.

I wouldn't waste my time arguing he wasn't a great fighter but, by the same token, I wouldn't waste my time trying to make out he's a had a great welterweight career either.

    That's a fair comment.

So what, in your opinion does he have to do to be considered one of the best?

Why do Floyd fans find it impossible to get to the middle ground. Why can Floyd only be GOAT or a bum?

No one is arguing he is "a" great, but that's entirely on his performances below 140. At 140 and up he's carved a very selective path, avoiding what would have been defining fights.

He retired rather than fight Cotto, stayed retired rather than fight Margarito. Now he's "back" he's consistently picked weaker opposition.

But I'll give him Ortiz gladly if he fights Pac or Sergio Martinez.

my friend I'm bordering on being a guru when it comes to boxing history and I've studied such to an unhelathy degree, and I'm saying that my opinion is that Floyd is ****ing fantastic and I'm not putting any 'buts' or apologetic remarks in there with that statement, **** it, I don't have to answer to any 'elitist' establishment (which is the biggest joke ever). Boxing goes in cycle in terms of the way it is viewed, and this talk of Floyd is nothing new what so ever. He'll be appreciated in due time, like Ezzard Charles was, hopefully it won't take until he is in the ground in Floyds case though:good

Also, **** Floyd and Manny for not delivering us the biggest fight in the world, can't express how much I hate them both on that count, but in terms of everything else, I'm so happy for them to be around

The point you make is exactly my point. I am not a floyd 'fan'. I am a boxing fan and I could talk history with the best of you on here.

Nobody on here at all, at any point said floyd is one of the greatest welterweights of all time. His career, however compares favourably with many of the modern greats. So why isn't he one of them?

I think he fits in with them sure he might have suffered a loss or 2 but he's in that class imo
