What's funny is Hatton acknowledged Floyd fought better inside than he did. Up to this point, it was Hatton who was mauling people like that. Floyd employed Hatton's tactics against him. You elbow, he elbows. You fight dirty (sucker headbutt) you get dirty back (sucker punch). And no these aren't MMA elbows, it's create separation elbows.

Floyd uses those bows both offensively in close to create swelling and cuts and defensively to create space.

Cotto likely will fight from a distance and force Floyd to jump in and out....he can counter Floyd effectively since he has IMO similar hand/footspeed as Floyd.

If Cotto goes in there trying to bang away he'll likely be battered like Hatton was. If he fights like he did vs Margocheato.....he could essentially KO Floyd or take him the distance for a close fight.:deal

Yeah, in hindsight it was a surprisingly good fight, and Hatton is rare in that he never stopped trying against Floyd. Ortiz got so discouraged that he threw the headbutt, Mosley backed off after he was getting outboxed, and even Hoya seemed reluctant at points rather than just going full throttle and taking more risks. If I remember right, Marquez was still trying throughout the fight, but he was less competitive than Hatton.

Hatton was trying right up until the end...in fact it was his own aggression that worked against him in the end. I was never a big fan of Hatton due to his ugly style and lack of defence, but when I look back at this performance I have to respect him. Floyd gave him quite a battering in the 8th round, throwing the kind of combinations he usually never uses at the higher weights, and Hatton still kept coming.

He cannot out box PBF, PBE has the reach advantage and Cotto would be picked apart. Cotto has to make it ugly and stay on the inside (even though PBF is better in fighter).

Cotto has to jab his way in and go to the body when he gets there to win . . . he also have to want it more. Yet, he cannot be reckless like Ricky and Victoria or else it will be a long night.

First, You refer to Ricky Hatton only as his opponent, like you didn't have a clue who he was . . . like was some nobody.

Second, He Uses his forearm to push off . . . push off is againgst the rules but everyone does it and you seem to not notice all the fouls that Ricky was doing in there . . . like leading with his head like a battering ram. But that is Ricky's style but you didnt see PBF whining about it during or after the fight.

Third, Cortez warned PBF about the "elbows" because Hatton corner had asked for Cortez to look out for that.

Finally, you were looking for the elbows but you missed a masterful performance. PBF was beating Hatton at his own game and then he set him up for the check hook finish . . . truly brilliant!

 

Using your forearm to parry blows is not ****ing illegal dip****. Floyd has never once thrown an elbow at an opponent.
