They figured in a fight that was marred by a near-riot but now Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Zab Judah may yet team up in the former’s showdown with Filipino ring superstar Manny Pacquiao on March 13.

Judah, a former undisputed welterweight champion, himself reported that talks are underway to possibly have him as Mayweather’s sparring partner for his much-anticipated showdown with the Pacman.

the southpaw Judah said in an interview with FightHype.com. on Saturday.

Judah and Mayweather locked mitts on April 8, 2006 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas with “Money" hacking out a unanimous decision. But that fight was more remembered for a ruckus involving their cornermen inside the ring, spurred by a low blow landed by Judah in the 10th round. Judah was fined $250,000 and had his boxing license revoked for one year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Assessing the planned Pacquiao-Mayweather gig, the 32-year-old Judah gives the unbeaten American the advantage.

said Judah, expressing marvel with Mayweather’s excellent defensive skills.

The Las Vegas-based fighter, who actually suffered an 11th round TKO loss to Cotto in their 2007 duel, also questioned how Pacquiao’s chin could take Mayweather’s precision punches.

For Judah, Pacquiao’s vaunted KO power would also not work wonders against Mayweather, although he did not discount the possibility of the Filipino pulling off a W.

Pacquiao and Mayweather have agreed in principle to fight on March 13 but promoters Top Rank and Mayweather’s representatives from Golden Boy Promotions are still to finalize the fight terms.

Trainer Freddie Roach intends to start training camp by January 5 or 6, with British champion and Pacquiao’s friend Amir Khan eyed as chief sparmate.

In the meantime, Pacquiao spent his moments savoring his historic victory over Cotto and celebrating his 31st birthday in his hometown General Santos City Thursday night.

The Pacman even staged a concert to mark his day, which was made all the more jolly by recognition he received from Time.Com, which named him in its list of People Who Mattered in 2009," an esteemed roster that included US President Barack Obama.

The day before, Pacquiao won runner-up honors to the late Sugar Ray Robinson in the World’s Greatest Ever Boxer voting, even outranking the legendary Muhammad Ali who was voted third in the online voting.

Birthday boy Pacquiao was also picked the World’s Greatest Ever Featherweight for his triumphs over Mexican greats Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, and Juan Manuel Marquez. - GMANews.TV

Judah is a good sparring partner IMO, even tho his style is nothing like Pac`s, it will help Mayweather get used to a southpaw with speed, that cant be bad.

Ps. Those last 2 paragraphs crack me up......

i think judah is a god pick for mayweather, speed and a south paw and power in that left, even though he dont fight like pacman i think he could do a great job copying pacman's style.

in and out and straight left and even pucnhes from angle's, i know pac as kahn for his sparring partner but i here pac is also trying to get berto as a sparring partner as well.

Seems like a good choice. Both southpaws, both have fast hands, there are definite similarities.
Think for Pacquiao Guillermo Rigondeaux would be a good sparring partner for Floyd, exept for being him a southpaw, he and floyd also have similarities.

  6. This pacquiao GOAT over hype is getting ****ing annoying.

But anyway, should be lucrative for all parties involved. Judah gets a nice paycheck, gets his recognition for being involved with the superfight aswell setting up a good source and deals for the Khan fight which should happen after.

Berto aint gonna spar with pac, he sees himself as a possible challenger to the winner. He wont spar with pac when he feels he could possibly fight him if he beats mosley

Please....IF Pac beats Mayweather like he'd really care about Berto! Why? HE already won a title at WW, and Berto isn't that much of a draw.
I don't think Berto is going to care after his fight with SHane. If he can make some $, and get sparring with the best P4P in the world at the same time....Seems wise for him to do it.

Short speedy southpaw good choice, only they have to instruct Judah to throw more punches. Thats the biggest thing is that Manny throws a lot of combinations and Judah hasnt done much of that since his junior welter days.

Pac is the #1 ATG (among active fighters). Floyd is really good but not as good as Pac even if he beats him. Just check their careers, Pac was never even supposed to step in to the ring with fighters like Oscar, Cotto, and Floyd.

Times goes by and bodies develop, please don't give me that bull**** that Pac is a tiny man when he isn't. He developed and gained weight later on in life unlike Oscar n Floyd did.

lol are you on crack or something? Pac is #1 atg among active fighters. Most people would agree with that statement.

You're the one who said only SRR is above him on ATG list? What about Henry Armstrong, Duran, SRL, etc... WTF are you smoking man that **** is ****ing you up!

Based on your reasoning Calzaghe is above Hopkins cause Hopkins lost a few times but Calzaghe is undefeated. Get into rehab!
