...and this is why he's hesitant to fight some of the bigger welters.

And you can't blame him, but you gotta understand that Ray Robinson started at lightweight, but because he could punch he fought all the way up to Light Heavy.

And ya'll that wanna say Mayweather can punch, why couldn't he put Gatti away despite hitting him with 5,000 flush punches?

Why did he need that many of his best punch to finally put away N'Dou?

Floyd will likely beat the **** outta Marquez who isn't a fierce puncher and is a smaller guy, and if he can manage to control Pac quickly and maintain his rhythmm, beat him as well...

But despite his skillset, which is excellent, it's his power that may allow less skilled fighters to eventually wear him down and beat him despite being far less tallented.

He's got hand problems, as was documented in Mayweather-Hatton 24/7. Plus most fighters struggle to carry there power up 5 divisions. I've always wondered why people say this like he's feather-fisted.

For those people who truly believe Floyd has never had any power, watch his early fights. Hell watch even his pro debut with Robert Acopado and tell me he wasn't hitting hard in that fight. He was even described in several fights at the beginning of his career as an out and out puncher.

Honestly, for the most part, at some point in your career you almost have to have some power to make it in the game.

There are some exceptions of course, but if a guy can't punch, his opponent will figure this out and he will have to rely on pure boxing skills and conditioning to basically survive the fight and leave it up to the judges.

    That would be hell...

I seriously doubt that. Floyd is not the kind of fighter that depends on his power. A less skilled fighter than can punch will never beat Floyd. You're trying to say a one demensional fighter can possibly get it done and i disagree. You say he hit Gatti with 5,000 times with flush shots and couldn't put him away? In reality, Floyd did put Gatti away.

Gatti staggered back to his corner and could hardly walk. If that fight went 1 round longer Gatti would have been carried away on a stretcher. Wasn't Mickey Ward considered a descent puncher? Did he handle Gatti like that? Perhaps if he did there would have been no trilogy. Floyd's power in accumulating. He's not the biggest puncher, but he's not feather fisted either.

the only way to determine whether mayweather has power is to know the number of rounds his opponents lasting before mayweather knocked them out. if the knock outs or most of them occurred after half of the fight then, i'm suspecious that lacked of power is the most logical conclussion. that the knockouts were attributed partly by fatique.

Dude there's no mandatory "Floyd lacks power" thread.

You don't have to do one every week.

He always had good power early in his career, just think his hand can't handle the weight he's at so he tends to pick his punches more.

i don't know about that no one expected him to KO Hatton with his fragile hands ..If anything his power is underrated .

His hand problems probably hinder him, but he didn't have hand problems against N'Dou. The guy just lacks power. Other than that, his skillset is incredible and he's the best boxer in the game.

But compared to a guy like Robinson, he's not on the same level as Robinson showed multiple ways to fight, but also had incredible punching power.

    It's Floyd's one weakness...that's obvious.

Maybe his chin is a weakness too, but that's speculative and nobody that we know of has been able to exploit this because his defense and overall game makes him almost impossible to hit cleanly.

But the fact that he lacks power would actually give guys like Margarito...if Margarito was a legitimate fighter before Mosley, a chance because while being incredibly unskilled in comparison to Floyd, his chin, heart, and size COULD make it a taxing fight.

Floyd took Hatton out of his rhytmm and from the 8th round on, Hatton didn't have the stamina to move out the way of Floyd's punches and was hit repeatedly.

    Hatton didn't want anymore anyway.

And most people say Floyd isn't a "true" welter. I don't think people would say that if Floyd was a devestating puncher.

Ironically, Robinson's KO percentage is lower than PBF's!

Dont tell the Mayweather fanboys that a fighter like Margarito may very well just walk through his punches and bulldoze him!:yep

The fact that he KO'd Hatton in the manner that he did may very well be testament to the shambles of Hatton's chin.......

Pacquiao had never in the years I've seen him from featherweight to present, never came close to putting a fighter to sleep that manner he put Hatton....

.....you put those two fights in your mind and a final analyisis may very well be is that Hatton's chin has turned to glass.

Mayweather did have exellent punching power at 130 lbs, but he's shown diminished punching power with each weight climb......

Its really hard to tell with Mayweather because he usually wears boxers oversized gloves into the ring to protect his hands, while Pac uses Reyes punchers gloves.

I do know that Mayweather hit Zab Judah who is'nt known for a great chin.....Mayweather hit him with plenty and not once did Zab buckle from any of his shots.
