He doesnt "lack" power. He has pop when he sits on his punches, which he does rarely. He buckled DLH at 154 leaning back.

Totally agreed that PBF lacks power at WW, but Gatti has a good chin and is bigger than PBF.

His power is just fine, especially his jab to the body, a very underrated weapon of his. He's also got enough to prevent guys from walking through him.

Void is a leach. He lives off other fighter's drawing power.

I don't know about Hatton's chin being in shambles ,Tsyu was able to hit him a few times and he was able to shake them off .

As far as the 10 oz glove issue your right its hard to guage his power but the fact he did KO HATTON gave us a tiny glimpse of what he is capable of just depends on his timing as with any fighter ..

The Tszyu fight was pre-Collazo.....Collazo had Hatton out on his feet, just 2 or 3 more seconds in that final round and Hatton would have been out cold.....

.....ever since that Collazo fight, its effected Hatton....he's been routinely wobbled in fights, where he had'nt before the Collazo fight.

Good post. Little Floyd would have a better time at welterweight in an era of same day weigh-ins. He is just not optimally sized (i.e., a huge welterweight).

At 130 and 135 Floyd stopped guys left and right. Put the hand problems together with the higher weight, and boxing fans . . . . . . . .

    We have a winner!

He has hand problems and that obviously affected his power(see Calzaghe).
But still his power is decent.

I kinda agree floyd lacks power, but his skills and punching accuracy makes up for it..

That's the important thing right there. Guys can't bum rush Floyd, nor can they throw defense away and just walk him down. He has enough pop that if opponents don't respect it, they get a quick ass whoopin".

the diffrence is, a fighter who lacks power can't hurt his opponent, Floyd hurts them with every shot, wears them down and knocks them out. Just because he doesn't have Foreman-esque victories doesn't mean hit shots don't buzz you. Did Gatti look like he wasn't hurt? Or N'Dou when he was staggering all over the ring after getting up at the 8 count? Every left hook to the chin was dropping Corrales, as it did Hatton. A fighter who lacks power is, say, Willy Blain. A fighter who doesn't rely on power but still hurts you with each punch is Floyd Mayweather.

I believe the notion that Floyd had punching power at 130 and it has since diminished is false. Floyd has always lacked power, and has actually adjusted as he's moved up in weight in order to increase his power. When you look at his fights at 130, you have to throw out every fight before the Tony Pep fight. All of those guys were no hopers. Since the Pep fight, he's fought all top 10 guys and not D level cans. Most of his stoppages at 130 from the Pep fight on were all accumulation stoppages.

Most of the time, his opponent probably could've kept fighting but the ref or the corner stopped the fight because of the one sidedness of the fight. The only exception was against Juko, where Floyd knocked him out cold. From the N'Dou fight on, he seemed to fight a little more flat footed which did serve to give him a little more power. N'Dou was in no shape to continue at the end of that fight, Corley was beat up pretty bad but obviously was never seriously hurt. Bruselles was in no shape to continue. Gatti was in no shape to continue. Mitchell was in no shape to continue. Hatton obviously was in no shape to continue. Judah was on his way to getting stopped on accumulation before the brawl.

So since the N'Dou fight, Baldomir and Hoya were the only guys that Floyd fought that he wasn't able to hurt. Numerous other guys were in no shape to continue when the fight was stopped. At the lighter weights, pretty much all of Floyd's stoppages against world class opposition were accumulation stoppages. Floyd definately is not a big puncher, but the added weight has not really affected his power.
