We all know that you can't beat Floyd fighting at HIS pace and the guys that beat him (Castillo I, Maidana I) pressed the action and never let him get comfortable. I'm talking about pinning Floyd against the ropes... guys make the mistake of burying their head against Floyd's chest to set up punches, wait for counters, or even rest. This gives Floyd time to think and counter and rack up the points. This is a big component of Floyd's success. Pacquiao will do no such thing as infighting is not something he emphasizes on. If Floyd finds himself against ropes, Pac will be throwing non-stop. Roidquez is an excellent infighter, but there's a reason Nacho begged him to stay off the ropes.
You said Pacquiao won't in fight vs Floyd, what if Floyd forces an inside fight on him? As for the ropes part Floyd might go there to lure Pacquiao there for counter opportunities or even draw him in only to get Pacquiao stuck on the ropes
Good point. The way pac throws hard punches from weird angles will no doubt catch mayweather repeatedly when hes resting on the ropes. Also Pac has these really good fast hard hook/uppercuts which he lands when his opponent is ducking he caught timothy and algeiri with them loads and i bet floyd will get caught with them too because he will be duking very often
Pacquiao's one of the most elusive fighters in the game... guys that were able to pin him against the ropes were able to do so w/ high activity and they came forward all night. Margarito comes to mind and he paid for it. Cotto was lured to the ropes. Floyd ain't driving Pac to the ropes.
Floyd is much more stationary these days, I doubt someone as quick on their feet as Pacqiao is just gonna let him run around the ring throwing 30 punches a round. Call me crazy, but I feel like his best bet is to try and crowd Pacquiao and stay at a range where Pac isn't comfortable.
Hmmmm, a good post from you... This is odd. For the most part I agree with your view here, but the one thing those fighters, or any fighter that gave mayweather problems was to mix up the attack high and low. I don't think manny will do that though which will be an issue for him since getting a clean shot to the head on Floyd is pretty tough, and it becomes even more difficult when you're head hunting.
I agree. I really think Floyd will move, jab, potshot for the first few rounds. Then he's going to walk Manny down with a high guard, and try to crowd him and infight with him. :deal
This is the only time he had problems with sluggers/swarmers, when he was pressed on the ropes for way too long, or for some dumb reason, decided himself to voluntarily stay pinned on the ropes. Pacman doesn't have the brute strength of a Maidana to pin Floyd onto the ropes. Even if he did have that level of strength, he doesn't fight in that manner at all. He'll be doing what he does best- jumping in and out of the pocket and attempting to nail his opposition with rapid flurries/combination punches. And most of that usually takes place around the center of the ring.
The thing is, the OP is right, its not like pac is just going to sit there and throw 1 or 2 punches and then floyd counters. Pac is going to throw 7 or 8 punches, regardless of floyd countering 1 of them. This will be an interesting aspect of the fight and I believe pac will make floyd very comfortable at these moments. I just hope pac doesn't get caught with something he doesn't see and floyd actually commits to it and shows power he hasn't shown in a long time. This will be floyds best opportunity to KO pac, IF and big IF he has the power to even get Pacs respect which I'm not so sure of.
