Costa: Why is the fight with Pacquiao had not happened? Floyd: Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I come first. If the fight does not happen, So be it. Costa: Your thoughts on Ali-Frazier and Ali-Norton? Floyd: Fans forced Ali to fight some fighters that he should have not fought. Floyd Mayweather fights for Mayweather. Floyd should be happy and comfortable with a fight. Clearly, Floyd is not past his use by date. The images of Hatton lying flat on his back and unconscious for a few minutes, Margaritos damaged eye retina from Pacquiaos pounding and Cottos bloody face, Floyd thinks real hard first before giving in to the demands of millions of fans. As he said, money is not everything as "Health is important".
I don't see how anyone can take issue with that statement. People need to understand what Boxers risk, not just Floyd, but club fighters and journeymen too. Very few go out of this game the way they came in, if he can then that will be his most important accomplishment.
Why would he fight Pac when he can make eaiser money fighting has beens ? He doesn't care about his legacy anyhow.
He said it because he's a terrible speaker not because he actually meant he was scared of Pacquiao, he often drifts away from the actual question and says something irrelevant or something that doesn't make sense.
How should it be taken? That Floyd should not fight Pac for fear of being beat up as Ali was? I really have no idea what his answer has to do with the question asked. Other then alluding that Pac would be bad for his health. Is that it?
I took it as (From my slightly tilted viewpoint) His first statement where he says 'I come first' I think he alludes to the financial point, he comes first; his terms. (I disagree with his stance on this, 50-50 is fair) The second point, I'm not sure. I will say that Floyd has seen the effect on former Boxers, look at the difference in Roger in recent years. He alludes to the fact that Ali fought on for the adoration he recived, he was as hooked on that as he was the pay day. Mayweather doesn't concern himself with admiration.
This content is protected Not big punching Mosley, not 165 pound Ortiz, and hasn't with Cotto. Pacquiao agreed to the tests, so what the **** else is there to ***** about? Oh, Pacquiao needs to except a shitty offer. But before he accepts a shitty offer, he needs to leave Bob Arum. atsch
remember that same duck says "pac is an easy fight" yet duck is concern about his health guess duck is a ****** LoL
If it's about finance, a fight w/ Pac brings him the most he's ever made. Doesn't it? If he thinks the quality of his life will differ from having 100mill in assets when he retires (which is realistic) to having JUST 60mill in assets, he's nuts. If its about health, then he's inadvertently saying Pac can put a serious hurt on him. And that he's putting that into consideration as a reason NOT to fight Pac. Which makes sense, considering how he's alluding to Pac being on PED's, saying those are the reasons he's hurting MUCH bigger guys. Which again goes to something his dad said, about how he wouldn't put Floyd in with Pac (it's been a few years now, may be mistaken. So not verbatim). My opinion, I think Floyd just said what SOUNDED good to him. When it comes to interviews, Floyd is actually pretty clueless. However, in this case, he may have let more out of the bag then intended.
Floyd says Pac is an easy fight, then says Pac is a health risk. This is the problem with Floyd. He needs someone to teach him how to talk.
