When the fight was being negotiated Mayweather was clear favourite in that December month.People started betting and Mayweather was the clear favourite.(google the stats) What you dont know is when doing financial modelling it's these probabilities (what you call odds) that are used not what a forumite on the internet thinks.Yes every fighter when he gets into the ring has a chance but the most probable outcome is Pacquiao will lose.It's those probabilities and standard deviations which are used to measure risk (bell shaped distribution curve).Arum is a businessman,he takes calculated risks,by that we mean if the reward is great yes you can make the fight where your fighter will most likely lose.Unfortunately the risk in the Mayweather fight is too great and the reward doesnt justify that risk.Risk has to be rewarded (unless you aint rational of which we dont care about imbeciles)He can make more money by matching his own fighters who pose no threat to his cashcow.Yes upsets do happen but they are more of exceptions and not rules.Everyone has an opinion but not every person's opinion matters.Promoters and bet makers see things differently because they stand to lose if things go wrong.They take many scenarios and try to simulate outcomes.Most of those outcomes favour Mayweather and that's what matters.When you say Mayweather stands to lose more,no.It's unlikely he will lose so it's unlikely he will obviously lose his marketability.As for OSDT you need to look at what's been happening of late.People cheating and the rumours in boxing circles about Pacquiao's cheating (which have been circulating for a long time).To eliminate the risk of cheating Mayweather suggested OSDT.There's sense in everything Floyd's doing,he has a great team behind him even though people might hate him.He's a real business person.

As for Mayweather-Ortiz ppv numbers,it's only been 2 weeks since the fight was made,there's a chance the numbers will be released.Mosley-pacquiao was long back and Arum went ballistic when journalists asked for the numbers.

nobody believes the don king ****. People pay taxes late all the time. A guy like Floyd who is still getting big checks from previous fights is going to have interesting taxes due anyways

 

Don King's not credible but even if he did cashflow management is a different ball game.If you have off shore accounts like many rich people,there are often restrictions on how you can access your cash.We dont know the circumstances,his making $40m and needing $0.5m are different.If he borrowed it could be because King doesnt charge interest whereas banks charge interest.
As for tax,taxation is complicated.Many movie stars have been misled by advisors and paid less tax than they should have paid.We do not know how the liabilities were incurred.Was that deliberate tax avoidance or an oversight?HOw much details do you have?All we heard was he owed but how?It's not like many people who pay their tax as they earn,highly paid athletes have many schemes to negate their tax liabilities

If Floyd does under a million ppv buys, then it's a bust. But the only person who can even do over 700K is Pacquiao and Floyd

standard fee for a manager is 30%... Floyd may have gotten away from paying a higher share to a promoter (Arum) but he gained a manager who takes 30%.

...for HBO to make 53 mil. from that fight, they would be taking about 75% of the gross PPV income or about 50% and a lot of the ad sales and site fee. There's no way HBO is only taking 20%.
