Who did Floyd beat that was better than Ezzard Charles or Archie Moore? Do you rate Rocky Marciano close to the top?
Man, you can write a lot and totally skirt the point. I said that Robinson was more consistent in number of fights since he had so many more, many of them against good comp. A great run of 100+ fights over 10 years beats a great run of 50 fights over 20, for me. And I haven't nitpicked any of Floyd's fights, so I don't know where that comes from. And you never said where you have Calzaghe? From the way you've argued nr. 2 would be a quite logical guess. To get that spot taken from him if Crawford beats Spence and retires.
Did you see the fights ?? See Floyd in tears whining it wasn't fair Tony Weekes didn't stop Maidana beating on him Then Kenny Bayless stopping Maidana from fighting in the rematch. Not to mention the hilarious scream & cry "He bit me " ROFLMAO At least we can agree to disagree & remain civil with each other which is as it should be
People are still talking about this? No, he is not even close to the GOAT. Cherrypickin/and stalling a flyweight.. GTFOH
One question............. Were you at any of these fights in person? or just repeating trash? I was there for many of his fights ringside 1...Lozoya,Dixon & Rodney Jones were all fights Margarito had as a teenager fighting seasoned Pro's 2... Daniel Santos I was present at both in Puerto Rico Both fights were stopped due to serious cuts to Margaritos eyes caused by blatant head butts from Santos. One was declared a N/C The other magically Santos was deemed ahead by the home town officials. 3....Paul Williams won a close decision over Margarito. Both fighters wanted a rematch but Dan Goosen just said Margarito is in our past not our future & refused 4.... Margarito beat Cotto down making him quit on his knees stopping him.I was ringside. The rematch was a repeat of fight one. Cotto started to fade again Tony was beating his chest yelling C'mon lets fight!!!!! Only then did that NY doc stop the fight not to save Tony's eye too late for that . he couldn't see out of it from round 2 & the doc knew it He stopped that fight to save Cotto the embarrassment of Quitting AGAIN!!!!!! 5....Pacquaio took a decision win over Margarito in Texas I was there too. Before the fight Robert Garcia complained about Freddie stacking Pac's wraps asked for them to be removed. Freddie refused saying stacking wraps was legal in Texas as well as Nevada now. Was the stacking the reason for the horrific permanent damage to Tony's eye ?? We'll never know but Tony never quit like Cotto.. I heard Pac say afterwards " I was fortunate to have survived & won that fight. I have never been hit so hard in my life before he was too big & too strong". Just afterwards Pac collapsed from pain in his damaged ribs & as taken to hospital. As for the Debacle concerning Naz Richardson's lie about plaster blocks falling out of Tonys wraps which the CSAC took off with like the Keystone Kops & took away Tonys license to box in Ca. This was done before the wraps & pads were even tested by an independent lab weeks after the fight. The lab did NOT find any evidence of Plaster whatsoever but when microscopic analysis was used trace elements of Sulphur & Calcium were discovered which in much larger amounts are indeed ingredients of plaster when wet. BUT both are also ingredients of Human Sweat in the amount discovered. plus the pads were still soft when were they supposed to get hard & dangerous????? LOL As for Mosely a PROVEN & eventually a forced to admit Steroid abuser . He claimed at first he believed he was being treated for allergies & had passed 2 lie detector tests proving this , then up popped BALCO with the receipts with Moselys name & signature on them & he had to come clean & confess he cheated. The way Mosely fought like a wild man with unending stamina looks like he may have been using again I'd say If the CSAC could prove Tony cheated, or even tried to cheat, they would have indicted him right away & rightly so but they had nothing so this was the reason they "refused to reinstate Margarito's license to box in Ca because they still believed he MAY have tried to cheat !!!!!! I thought US Law was Any suspect is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law There was no court because they couldn't prove a thing. A Big Black Eye for Boxing without a doubt
Disagree. This is a thread of all time rankings based on votes made by 24 of our fellow posters - https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/top-35-all-time-reveal-boxing-survey-series.653021/ At WW SRR beat all time #3 Armstrong & all time #6 Gavilan. Pacquiao is #16. Admittedly, the 30-year old Armstrong was past his best when SRR beat him, but so was the 36-year old Pac when Mayweather beat him. Gavilan was prime for both of Ray's victories over him. At MW La Motta is #11 & Canelo #19. Ray beat Jake x 5, Mayweather beat a drained Canelo x 1. At #19 p4p all time, I probably rate Mayweather higher than the average classic poster, but even I can see that his win resume isn't even close to SRR's.
Boxing seems to be the only sport where a modern day competitor can't be regarded as the very best. Even fighters not even born yet won't be regarded as the GOAT for many/most fans, simply because they don't fight as much as fighters from 40+ years ago, which seems, well, wrong really.

I wouldn't call it wrong, but, sure, there are problems with it. More wins against good/great comp=more proven. And while conservative, I think it's reasonable to rank according to who the most proven is. But you can also use that to just rank the greatest, but a somewhat different to rank the best. To use "who looked the best against good enough comp over a sufficient number of fights". That on the other hand, becomes biased against the old timers since fewer of their fights are on film. Both ways of ranking have their merits and flaws, but Floyd is not nr. 1 for me either way.
I'm 100% happy with SRR as the #1. Just making the point that, as the culture has changed, someone being proclaimed as the GOAT in, say, 2040 should be in the conversation at least. So you can have a guy who finishes up at, say, 37-0 wins title at 4 different weights and loses just six rounds in his entire career, he simply won't have the amount of names on his record as SRR did, but that doesn't mean he can't be better.
I think this is a good point but I will say that sometimes you need a few years to fully get an overview of a fighters career and correctly place them. Someone for someone like Joe Louis we have had many years to debate and analyze his career while a more recent fighter's career overview is only possible once they are retired ad a few years out. Also this discussion is (mainly) not denying that Floyd isn't a great fighter, just that he isn't the GOAT which is a totally different thing of course and would IMO a bit more time to think about to be confident in confirming.
