Floyd Mayweath Jr. resume from Corrales up is very very impressive.

I am a Pac fan (not a ******* though). I must admit FMJ's resume isn't that bad. He's a gutsy fighter and a risk taker not too long ago. We should atleast give him that.

The quality of his opponents from his 18th bout onwards (got his first major title) aren't janitors, they are decent boxers.

His 25th bout being against Corrales (who was 33-0 then) is very high risk. A protected fighter wouldn't be advised to be thrown in this kind of fight. I mean, he actually gambled his career on that. 24 pro fights is a bit raw against a peak / quality Corrales.

So when did he start to be extremely cautious on his picks?

After Castillo II? Before jumping to WW? After the historic / PPV record breaking fight vs. ODLH? After breaking-up with Arum?

All the hating started after he split with Arum.

and your right someone like mayweather in his 24th pro fight took on underfeated KO artist in corralles, lets compare that to joe calzaghe who in his 41st pro fight fought an underfeated Lacy. After that calzaghe had 5 more fights then retired.

The reason i used calzaghe as an example, is because there was a thread the other week about who was the biggest cherry picker. And the poll was split, which was ridiculous.

Totally agree, he started to get picky when he saw Delahoya do it without much fan retribution, with fans still considering Oscar a warrior. He then thought to Himself I can get paid like $20 million without breaking a sweat. The turning point when he decided he would not put himself a risk was when he fought oscar and earned more than he ever earned for a fight.I conseider him a great fighter with unfinished work left, but those who hate him and say he has no noteable win are just pure haters plain and simple.

I just watched more of his earlier fights and repeat his last 6 fights.

He is EXTREMELY hard to outpoint! I mean, he's so cautious to get hit and his in-and-out left jab + shoulder defense + counter punching is hard to break. Plus his mental toughness and ring generalship is on A DIFFERENT LEVEL, patience and timing is his key. His ability to adjust is like a second nature.

If we will exclude ODLH and the two Castillo fights (his 3 close fights) - I doubt the total rounds he lost will reach 20.

A bit of a downside is (i say "a bit" coz it's not such a bad thing), he has mastered the art of winning via UD. I mean, health-wise it's safe to fight Mayweather Jr - not that i'm undermining his power.

After the second Castillo fight he became the cherrypicker you see today, only caring about money and protecting the "0".

What is the common denominator on those 3 close fights he had? What's the reason Castillo and ODLH won more than 3 rounds per fight ( to me, noone else won more than 3 out of 12 off FMJ)?

They actually came in with some advantages in the fight and a gameplan to use them?

Or that Floyd's just made sure he can avoid anything like a risk ever again?

Calzaghe wasn't the guy who was in a position to call shots. From the Eubank to Lacy win, he made no money and didn't draw.

Mayweather said, "all roads lead to Floyd Mayweather". He's in the position to fight anyone.

Calzaghe stepped up when fighters wanted him. When Mayweather became a commodity he fought easy targets.

Personally...I can honestly say that Floyd is not Cautious in taking fights.
As I mentioned in a previous thread. Of the "So-called" top-welters, none of them legitimately came to negotiations to fight Floyd.

After Paul Williams beat Sharmba Mitchell, it made Williams THE MANDATORY challenger for Margarito's Title. Margarito did not want to fight Williams...and "Williams' Team" THREATENED a Law-suit against Margarito...So where are all the threads calling Margarito a ducker.
And after Williams beat Margarito, Williams said he will give Margarito an IMMEDIATE REMATCH. But margarito goes on to fight Golden Johnson and Kermit Cintron.

When Floyd won Two Title eliminators at 140lb (Corley & Bruseles) then fighting (Mandatory fight) for Gatti's 140lbs title. He was considered the Best at 140lbs. The other 140lbs Title Holder was Miguel Cotto. Did Cotto come to the Table to get a deal done with Floyd...NO. He was fighting Abduleav, Torres, Branco and Malignaggi.

When Floyd moved to 147lbs..was Mosley jumping in the ring embarassing himself during Floyd interviews?...NO. He was fighting David Estrada, Jose Luis Cruz and Fernando Vargas...HE NEVER MENTIONED WANTING TO FIGHT FLOYD until he start looking for one last PHAT PAY CHECK BEFORE RETIREMENT!!!

So it wasn't Floyd being Cautious...It was the So-Called best...NOT WANTING TO FIGHT FLOYD!!!

And its so stupid not to want to fight Floyd.

    1. Floyd is a Cash-Cow...Everyone fighter that fights Floyd, (After 2001) makes the most money they would have made in their careers for a fight.

    2. Physically, its an easy fight. Floyd is not some Brawler, that will give you a concusion, bloody your ass to death. So therefore there is no threat to your career. HE'LL JUST MAKE YOU LOOK BAD AND OUTBOX THE **** OUT OF YOU!!!

And the one thing (its actually much more ****) that bothers the hell out of me...is after Floyd Goes to a weight that he has never fought at before to fight Oscar, whos had 6 fights at 154lbs and a fight at 160lbs..After this fight....he fights Ricky Hatton at 147lbs...Everybody (Floyd Haters) go on & on saying: "Why did he fight Ricky at 147lbs, he made Hatton move up...Ricky is a 140lbs fighter:|:|"

So everyone thinks the SMART thing to do is to have a fighter who just fought at 154lbs to shed 14lbs to fight a 140lbs fighter instead of diong THE LOGICAL thing and MEETING IN THE MIDDLE 147LBS!!!:-(

And another thing....Why is it OK for Oscar to Fight Steve Forbes, Cotto to fight Alfonso Gomez and Pavlik to fight Miguel Espino...All fighters from the "Contender" reality show and neither fighter is not much of a challenge. Now I know all their FANS will tell you (especially one particular Cotto fan) will SWEAR ""they were all tune-ups"..Fine, Personally I don't have a problem with it.

But Floyd has only one fight in over two years...and after the negotiations failed with Pacquiao...IF HE FOUGHT A FIGHTER FROM "THE CONTENDER" OR MALIGNAGGI, OR MAT HATTON ITS JUST DOWN RIGHT WRONG!!!

Floyd has got to fight KING KONG AND SHAQ TO "STAY BUSY OR TUNE-UP"...BUT ITS OK FOR EVERYONE ELSE TO FIGHT STEVE FORBES, MIGUEL ESPINO OR JOSHUA CLOTTEY.

    Dare I say...DOUBLE F***ING STANDARD!!!:-(

Wasn't the fight against Hatton risky? He was undefeated at that point and most haters had been calling for this fight for a while.

Then again, many people were expecting Gatti to beat him back when they both met.

Thing is, when Floyd dismantles another boxer with ease, haters start devaluing his opponent once the fight over so they can accuse him of cherry-picking.
