That makes zero sense. You realize the Professor is a human being, and not a bot, correct? And that even if he was the latter there is no such thing as extant AI that can read & evaluate a thread in order to make a qualitative evaluation in determining whether or not it was directly or just obliquely "boxing related"? It hasn't been "removed already" because he so far has just happened to not log on and/or see it since it was made.

There is no universal code of standards to which all the mods adhere; there never has been, and that's no secret. We all just follow our respective instincts and more or less common sense forum guidelines in trying our best to interpret the rules as we think suits the admins' wishes - and our collective desire to see this place hopefully not suck as bad as it could. TP interprets a lot of stuff exactly like this as "off-topic" (ie not directly boxing related) and whether I may agree with that or not the fact is that he's 99.99% likely to delete this as soon as he sees it, and most often I'm not doing to contravene a fellow mod's will and undo a deletion. I can't even really be arsed to argue with other mods about what they choose to do. The best and most practical assistance I can lend is to inform posters what content is apt to be targeted, so they can perhaps change the wording of their OP and title in order to make it less of a giant bullseye.

A thread about Mayweather getting shot at, or about this or that boxer getting into a scuffle at some nightclub with a video link from TMZ, or anything else about boxers in their 'civilian' lives and not pertaining to in-ring competition, traditionally is the sort of thing caught in Prof's cross-hairs and deleted. I'm not passing a value judgment on that, just stating the facts. He technically isn't wrong. The rest of the mods don't usually delete such threads, as we have different priorities and different things we're on the lookout for. But we try not to step on each other's toes, for the most part.

I was saying that I would've thought there would be some uniform rules/standards as to what is suitable content for the forum and what isn't. Ergo, if it was worthy of deletion, one of you guys would already have deleted it. Your initial post came off as if the Prof is granted some kind of renegade power to delete whatever he doesn't like.

Different things and priorities .??????? You mean you aren’t as harsh as him and don’t just come on here to keep some weird order that isn’t even on the level.

Let's put it this way. The admins don't have a stated position on "grey area" material, AFAIK. Stuff that is kind of about boxers or personalities in the sport (trainers, commentators, ring announcers etc) but focused on events in their lives outside the sport. Is he technically right to interpret that stuff as "off-topic" garbage cluttering the forum? Yeah, if you look at it from a certain perspective. I personally draw the line of what is reasonably boxing-related to me a little further out than he does. Typically he deletes anything short of a "such and such has passed away" type of thread - because while not boxing related it obviously would be unnecessary and in poor taste not to allow fans to reminisce about the fighter and post "RIP" and stuff like that. If a boxer is hospitalized or in legal trouble or anything, though, Professor's inclination would be to usually delete it. My feeling is, when things can potentially directly affect somebody's chances of returning to action (like Avtandil Khurtsidze's sentencing, or if somebody is shot non-fatally) they are close enough to "on-topic" we probably should leave them alone. Just a difference in moderating philosophies.

I'm not here to ****-talk him, the guy has been loyal to ESB since...hell, long before it ceased to be called ESB :sisi1 - and has been a mod longer than all the rest of us combined. I know some of his choices have been unpopular but I'm also not here to undermine or unravel those choices. I'm just directing traffic here, and giving people a heads-up what may or may not be a candidate for deletion in my peers' eyes (because I know all too well the pain of having crafted long, well-thought-out posts only to see them fall prey to scorched-earth)

I understand your explanation. Between the bunch of you and your different modding priorities, you clean up all the crap. The Prof is implicitly assigned to cleaning up the sensational TMZ type stuff, because that's his bugbear. Gotcha. If sensational TMZ type stuff counts among the content the administrators would like to see kept off these pages, that's fair enough.

I'm not going to lie, however, the Prof does come across as a weird jackass on a messageboard power trip. And I don't much care if he sees this and subsequently bans me for my assessment, because I'm a fully functioning man, unlike him.

That I don't know. Those guys are mysterious and never around. I've communicated directly with them I think exactly twice in my dozen years on here.
