The slating of Roy Jones was a bit unfair, but I agree mostly. Mayweather isnt interested in proving how greast he is.

Personally I think he has the beating of every welterweight in the top ten, that would put him up their with the Leonards and the Robinson imo, his lack of interest is frustrating!

Where are all the Floyd fans, who will defend him to the death?

Hard to argue some of this writers points, so they will let this thread drop into the abyss?

I'll defend it. LOL. When Floyd fought Judah and Baldomir they were both considered top 5 welterweights at the time, so Floyd's 2006 was productive. Then Floyd moved up and fought a top 3 154 pounder in earlier 2007. Afterwards he fights Ricky Hatton (whom many tried to say he ducked at 140 and also seem to forget that he won an alphabet soup title from Collazo in his very first apperance at 147). Neither DLH (given the terms of conditions) or Hatton were easy fights. They were just money fights.

And it is true that all of the other top 8 have fought at least one current contender. However, one has to analyze the status of a fighter. Cotto had to fight Mosley and Judah to simply make a name for himself in the mainstream public's eye. Same goes for Paul Williams and Kermit Cintron. These guys have no choice because it is too much else they can do. Only Cotto is close to being a "money" fighter, and if he could, he would be fighter De La Hoya right now, not Mayweather.

With that said, I want to see Mayweather fight Cotto (and believe this will happen if Cotto wins his fights and increases his public appeal). I'm not saying that Mayweather shouldn't be fighting the current top welters, I'm just saying that I believe there are not too many fighters right now that would do otherwise if they were in Mayweather's position.

    P.S.

The author losses a lot of credibility when he says "Physically, there's nothing he does great. In the ring, he's smart, and his defense is thought to be very good, but in my opinion it's more fundamental than anything else."

True I'll be so glad when this (Mayrunner) bore and his affect on the sport-"boxing by running" is gone and we can get back to the good 'ole days.

: "Several days ago, Top Rank president Bob Arum told El Nuevo Dia that a fight between Cotto and De La Hoya was possible for 2008. Arum also said that in order for the fight to happen, Floyd Mayweather Jr. would have to beat Ricky Hatton on Dec. 8 and Miguel Cotto would obviously have to beat Shane Mosley on Nov. 10.
"It has been discussed, but nothing is written on paper. If Miguel beats Mosley, and Floyd Mayweather wins over Hatton, I believe that Oscar would fight Cotto, but neither have signed or agreed to a fight. It's only been in the talking stages," Arum said. ":deal

I like the article but disagree in some things:

I think the best fighters in the Welterweight division are Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Carlos Quintana, Paul Williams, Zab Judah, Antonio Margarito and Kermit Cinton. Not Joshua Clottey.

In my opinion, Mayweather can do anything with his free time. It is tolerable to fight anyone or do anything when he's not boxing.

De la Hoya is one of the top Light Middleweights. I only rank Spinks and Forrest above him. This is debatable, of course.

Mayweather is a very complete fighter. A great defense, excellent chin, very good speed, infinite stamina. At 130 he also had power. I think that his defense is outstanding.

    :huh

Well, I guess there's no risk in fighting Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo twice, Zab Judah, Oscar de la Hoya twice and Ricky Hatton. He has also won 6 belts in 5 weight division and won 3 Lineal Titles. He started at 130...it already is a risk to fight at 147 or 154.

Mayweather is the one that started at 130.

    What side?

Arum and Evangelista Cotto have talked too much. Fact is that they were planning to fight De la Hoya before the winner of Mayweather-Hatton was announced, and that they never offered a fight to Mayweather, and that Cotto is scheduled to fight Gomez, Mayorga, Clottey (mandatory) and Margarito-Cintron winner.
