Tyson had better defensive ability, whereas Mayweather was the more concussive puncher.

Tyson was more complete whereas Mayweather had better technique in a couple of areas. At his peak, Tyson was a master of offense and he had good defense too; so even though Mayweather was a great defensive stylist he never had that other dimension that allowed him to destroy guys like Mike. P4P I'd say that Mayweather was better and his resume is deeper. Inch for inch though Tyson was a giant killer who routinely beat men much bigger than him. Mayweather, on the other hand usually had height and reach advantages against opponents.
