Fair points! I want him to fight Cotto as well but it may not be meant to be. In his eyes all the work from 130-154 leaves no doubt while losing few rounds or never being knocked down or really hurt in the process. Let's be honest he's really a 140 pound fighter. He took on a man much bigger than himself at 154 for his first fight there and won he just beat Hatton a style that people said he couldn't succeed against and won so in his mind after all these tests he honestly feels he's done all he can do.

He's not a 140er. He's a full fledged WW. He might not be able to make 140 anymore for all you know.

I agree, although I still think he could make 140 easy. His body has grown well into 147, he has gotten thick.

If this really is the end for Floyd, it was a pleasure to watch him for the last decade.

If he comes back again, I will lose a little respect because of the constant drama. Almost borders insecurity.

floyd is just talk, the only reason he retired was cause he knows that he had to fight the winner of the cotto-margarito fight. He is scared because he knows he will get knockout. But I think he made a good descion by retiring now.

i also think that this is some kind of promotional gimmick as well. but is there enough time for september 20? it's about 3.5 months from now and when will floyd unretire? around one month from now and they will announce floyd had a change of heart and the fight is a go. ****ing genius!!! $$$

If in fact this IS NOT a publicity stunt then who does Dela Hoya fight next? Wright? Jones Jr.? Trinidad? Hatton?....

He knows it was close the first time, and fighting de la hoya again is a risk. Cotto and Marg, well we know he's running from them.

End of the day, pride was more important to him.

This is my personal opinion. Floyd fought like a champ in his early days in his career. Once he moved up in weight and was more "popular" he made some pretty meaningless decisions in his career(legacy wise). When the sport desired to see Floyd Mayweather Jr transcend the sport he instead stops and doesn't attempt it.. Amazing career over all, but completely unfulfilling in the final stretch and when it meant the most..., which to me is the point where most greats test their grit and endurance and longevity and well Floyd opted to halt that abruptly. IMO it is a very SAD way to go out, and is the exact reason why I'm not buying it. Secondly I hate to say it and many may disagree, but someone who is 31 years old with all the talent and reflexes in the world, to cut it short like that smells like fear of losing. Floyd is an amazing athlete but I truley think he fears or dreads the situation of losing and I don't think he ever wants to be put into that situation. Floyd will fight again, this is all pretty much nonsense...And sadly if he doesn't retire I and pretty much all fans will never take anything he says seriously ever again. The guy just continued to dig himself into such a meaningless hole for absolutely no reason at all. Maybe Floyd is doing the sport a whole lot of well and is going to semi retire so the winner of Cotto/Margarito fights DLH and then Floyd comes out of retirement to fight the winner. But even then it makes no sense. If he really is leaving so ****ing be it:yep

No don't worry about us, we've got Obama... :happy

And as for Floyd, if he's serious then it's a sad day, i ride for the dude but i must say i'm not happy about this, i know boxing can be a hellish experience but i just felt a few more fights would have been great for his legacy, but if he doesn't have the fire in his belly anymore then it's best he leaves the sport, rather that than him step in the ring half hearted and get beat so all the haters can say "i told you so" .

The Oscar/Forbes numbers were a bad sign so now Floyed predictably retires for the sheeples attention. ......Oh and then "maybe" an encore when he thinks Cotto is ripe for "pickin".:rofl
