good post:good i think the styles argument is way too often, as dina pointed out, confused with the greatness argument. some fighters are made for the other. while i don't see it as quite as one sided as dinamita might, pernell just had the right tools to beat the right fighter in mayweather

I have always heard this but never saw it. What fight is this? I'm sorry but you have to atleast attempt to throw a punch to win a round in my book. I don't care how bad the other guy looks.

Most of his knockdowns were due to being off balance. He was rarely hurt, he just liked to clown around a bit much and sometimes paid for it with flash knockdowns. When on point (which was always unless he was just dicking around) his defense was superb. You can't measure his defensive skills on something like that.

No doubt he is. The way he avoids fighting the dangerous fighters in the first place is his best defensive asset.

whether or not this actually happened is a case of debate. Bert Sugar maintains it happened 100% and Pep carried around a newspaper clip of the fight into his twilight years, supposedly detailing that round and his victory.

The opponent was jackie graves and there is no known footage of this fight, nor is there any evidience or documentation of the official scorecards.

Graves denied this ever happened BTW
