I must say i love watching his fights, his defense is wonderful to watch. Watched the emanuel augustus fight last night, deadly. Not qualified to comment on if he's the best ever though.

Pernell Whitaker, Willie Pep, Niccolino Locche and a good few others were much better defensive boxers than PBF. Personally I think Whitaker was No. 1.

locche, benitez, whitaker........... too many to name.

it would be akin to splitting hairs ranking one ahead of the other.

Certainly in my era Floyd is/was the best defensive fighter i have seen , however for me fighters should be remembered for going forwards not backwards !!!!!!

In my era, Hopkins is the best defensive fighter.

No, but he's definitely up there.

Personally I think Whitaker's is the best because his defense was anchored mainly on pure athleticism. Floyd on the other hand uses his athleticism with the shoulder roll, a very potent combination for defense. While it isn't as flashy or impressive to look at compared to Whitaker's, it does gets the job done.

And BTW only idiots call Floyd a runner, the guy likes laying on the ropes and fighting in the pocket FFS.

I like Bernard better than Floyd but no, he is not better defensively. Hopkins defense is mainly put-ya off-your-rythm/rough-em-up-and-clinch. He does execute a good philly crab but not as cleanly as say a Floyd or a Toney, which is why he resorts to the aforementioned tactics.
