OP's sentiment is over ESB's head to an even greater degree than Floyd is to the top competition in his weight class.

    Keep it up, guys.

The era right before this one... He should have been a welterweight when De La Hoya, Trinidad, Forrest, Mosley, Quartey etc were all prime welterweights... And I'd love to see him fight at 154 against Winky Wright, a prime Fernando Vargas, etc...

Lets see him go through all those guys undefeated, though I guarantee he avoids a lot of them

Even though I'm a Floyd fan, have to agree with this. It's hard to rate Floyd against the Fab 4. He would probably do well but we're comparing apples to oranges. I also believe Boxing is pretty weak across the board right now. Old men near or past forties are still champions--Mayweather, Martinez, Hopkins, JMM, Vitaly ... That **** would not have happened in the past. Boxing has become about impressions and protecting records.

Of this era, Floyd has outclassed many but he hasn't fought Pac, whom I think Floyd would destroy, but they haven't fought so who really knows. I also thought the DLH fight was closer than it should have been considering Oscar was way past his prime. Same with Cotto. A prime Floyd would have outclassed Cotto like he did Gatti.

I agree. floyd avoided too many challenges to blame it on circumstances.

The damage floyd caused cannot be repaired for some people. avoided pwill, margo, and pac. fought no one at JWW. if the op means floyd doesn't belong in this era because over the last 9 years floyd hasn't done ****, then i agree. otherwise, he's mistaking unbeatable for great timing.

End of his career he took on Hagler of all people....

If you wanna compare that, that would be like Floyd coming back from his self imposed vacation and take on Martinez. (hell that would still be LESS impressive)

Instead of having Marquez jumpup 2 divisions and still cheating him on the scales by throwing some more money his way.

You really can not compare SRL and Floyd.... SRL actually sweetened the deal for Hagler... he was a clever businessman but would concede things to make fights.
Unlike Floyd who will throw up roadblocks.

I would never argue Floyds greatness as he obviously is great, but he has a complete polar opposite mentality of a SRL who wanted to be great, Floyd wants to be rich.

  14. I'd love to see him fighting in the 80's and early 90's. There were a lot of ATGs in the 140-147 range that would have given Floyd some great challenges. I would leave Al Haymon in this era though... Because if you give Floyd his way of avoiding the best fights, what's the point?

Floyd is great, my favourite active fighter and no doubt the best fighter of the last 20 years.

However, if Floyd was around in the 80's, I can't see him getting involved in the super fights with the Fab 5. He would have not have been the star he is today, because to do that he would have had to fight and beat the likes of Pryor, Benitez, Duran, Leonard and Hearns, and Floyd probably wouldn't fight these guys.

Still though, Floyd has proven his greatness in this era so I think he's fine where he is. Looking forward to May 4th :good
