Never watched this interview before... and some wonder why many people want that dinosaur off the air. Probably the least professional announcer Ive ever seen work for Showtime or HBO.... likes to be a smug **** to fighters and the dudes never even been one himself. Cant believe hes kept his job for as long as he has, wonder whos dick he sucked to stay on the air.
Top 100 ATG maybe, certainly nowhere near top 50. It's his own fault for valuing that '0' so much. Floyd's resume raises more questions about who and when he didn't fight rather than who he did, then he has the nerve to besmirch the name of the only other other great fighter in and around his own weight class that he could have fought but chose not to (repeatedly). I would have bet my house on him beating Pac at any point in the past 3-4 years but he never dared to try. Instead he wants the riches and the shortcut to greatness without taking any risks.
You dont have to like him as a person but if you respct him as being a great fighter and you learn some aspects of boxing from him that makes you a better fighter then its all good. Just keep watching and learning.
Floyd brings on a lot of hate himself, but with Larry it seems personal. I remember that fight, remember Angel complaining about the stoppage but I didn't remember Larry's comment... The excuse for Larry is he likes action fighters and that's why he's not keen on Floyd, but back then Floyd was an action fighter and that comment was completely unnecessary.
Ouch.... I normally like Merchant, but that was uncalled for. Floyd was being polite and said nothing wrong. It would be kinda amusing if Larry said the same thing now, because Floyd often behaves like an idiot to other fighters, but at that time he just looked like a decent kid who was happy with his victory. Bad form, Merchant.
42-0 and the last 7 opponents have all been ranked top 3 in his division or top 10 in the world.:deal Those saying he ducks the best competition are ignorant. His last 7 opponents have been world class opposition.
50 fighters greater than Floyd or 50 fighters with greater resumes than Floyd? The latter would be considerably easier than you think, and the former is just speculation either way. Floyd never shared a ring with a prime or near-prime ATG so we'll never know just how great he is/was. He had the chance to meet and defeat some good-to-great names to bolster his legacy but he always found reasons not to. Once again, his own fault.
Robinson Armstrong Greb Ali Charles Duran Pep Louis Leonard Moore Langford Monzon Leonard Gans Wilde Jofre Tunney Hagler Marciano Walker Pacquiao Jack Johnson Dempsey Gavilan Ross Williams Whitaker Canzoneri Saddler Chavez Sr. Fitzsimmons Spinks Ketchel Conn Burley Napoles Griffith Foster Holmes Arguello Walcott Sanchez Foreman Frazier Hearns McLarnin LaMotta Olivares McGovern Hopkins Jones Jr. Holyfield
17 of these fighters are arguable. Try 50 fighters without any argument. I can just as easily post a list and say they are greater. Pacquiao is an example of a fighter who is not a given on this list and so is McGovern and Holmes. He can't because there are not 50 fighters out there (without argument) that aren't greater all time. You can't name 10 based on SKILL alone. Probably not even 5.
