Floyd Mayweather fight could be confirmed within 'next two weeks', says Amir Khan Amir Khan believes a fight with Floyd Mayweather is just around the corner Khan, 28, is confident an agreement could be made within two weeks Bolton-born fighter says the fight could take place in the US in September By Pa Reporter Published: 16:03, 2 June 2015 | Updated: 00:27, 3 June 2015 Amir Khan is convinced he could be less than two weeks away from landing his long-awaited super-fight with pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. Khan says there has been 'movement' in negotiations since his routine win over Chris Algieri in New York on Friday night, and the fight could take place in the United States in September. But Khan has dismissed any prospect of an imminent all-British showdown with domestic welterweight rival Kell Brook, saying he has 'no interest' in the fight at the present time. Khan told Press Association Sport: 'I don't think I have ever been closer to getting the fight with Floyd Mayweather than I am at this moment. 'The indications are that I have strengthened my case with my win over Algieri and I believe there is every chance the fight could be confirmed within the next two weeks.' Khan's long pursuit of Mayweather has led to long spells of inactivity in his career but insists at the age of 28 he cannot afford to wait around if he once more proves to be frustrated. 'The welterweight division is one of the hottest in world boxing at the moment and there are any number of other possibilities, including Miguel Cotto and Keith Thurman,' said Khan. 'I have waited too long and, while I believe it is finally going to happen, I am still determined to pursue other big fights in the United States once I have had some time off with my family.' But Khan has resolutely refused to entertain any prospect of facing Brook, who successfully defended his IBF title at the weekend with an easy win over Frankie Gavin. Brook's camp have accused Khan of running scared of a potential stadium-filling showdown and the Sheffield fighter accused Khan of being 'full of rubbish' in an interview on Sky Sports News on Tuesday. Khan said he had not watched footage of Brook and refused to rise to his rival's taunts, other than dismissing any chance of the fight being made in the short-term future at least. 'I have no interest in fighting Kell Brook at the moment because there are so many other, bigger fights out there for me,' said Khan. 'Brook has done nothing to justify a fight with me and he is just in it for the payday. He brings absolutely nothing to the table and it is not a fight I am looking at.' Meanwhile, Brook insists Khan has 'done nothing' to merit a fight with Mayweather and should instead focus on a contest which would be one of the biggest in British boxing history. Brook told Sky Sports News: 'He's got no right to fight Mayweather - if anyone is going to get the Mayweather fight it should be me. I'm world champion and unbeaten. 'He (Khan) should fight me because every single fight fan in Britain wants to see the fight. I'm giving him the opportunity to challenge for my world title.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/bo...fight-confirmed-two-weeks-says-Amir-Khan.html
Like what's the point? Doesn't Khan know deep down he's not gonna beat Mayweather let alone get a good punch on him? He's probably only in it for the money. Big payday and some publicity to fight a champ like Mayweather.
Its not going to happen, Khan in all honesty looked **** poor last weekend and its too soon to hav a bad performance then get Mayweather signed up two weeks later. I can see Garcia getting it even though he looked a lot worse last time out.
If I were Mayweather I'd either want to knock some sense into him or pick somebody else to ram the point home that he's not entitled to ****. What did he come out with the other week 'Mehwedderz dad tol meh ah'd be the one teh beat him', what kind of professional athlete makes up stuff like that to further his case lol, like the time he claimed he sparred with Andre Ward who refuted it, says he's selling out arenas (they are clearly downscaled when he fights), fighting the 'big names' (Collazo, Alexander and Algieri) whilst being kept away from punchers and avoiding Brook and Garcia, saying he has one of the best chins in the business when he doesn't, blaming his losses on anything but his own shortcomings, telling a person they don't know anything about boxing when he asks why he keeps talking about Mayweather... Khan is an exciting fighter and he has endless amounts of guts and has built a great career for himself but his delusions don't half crack me up. I fear for his sanity if he isn't picked but he hasn't made himself head and shoulders above the other guys, he's a fair pick but he isn't entitled to it, no matter how much he talks about himself in third person and says Brook isn't a fight that will get him Mayweather, well 90% of fans believe it would.
