Except...Cotto was doing a damn fine job of blocking that right with his gloves. Cotto negated Floyd's lead right.

I agree that it would have been an easi[er] fight if he boxed Miguel. I doubt his legs are gone, as some seem to think. Although, he wouldn't be moving like he was 25 year old, I think he would resemble more of how he boxed and moved in the JMM fight, a few years ago, if he chose to fight in that style. He chose to sit down on his shots with Cotto and stand and trade at times. I was surprised by that (even though he promised a toe-to-toe battle). Not taking anything away from Cotto, he fought well. He landed some very good shots on Floyd's head and body. He also took some good shots, and showed good stamina, and resilience. But, Floyd was taking more risks than usual, and than he had to in order to win the fight.

True. Cotto was falling for the jab feint followed by the sweeping right hook all night. The side of his face was blown up after the fight. Floyd could have rocked him all night with that over and over in the middle of the ring. I just don't get how he could react to the freaking same feint over and over, not duck the sweep at least once?

He's right....but Floyd doesn't like the criticism of being a "safety-first" fighter who avoids r
Risk at all costs just to secure the "W". Floyd wants respect and the way he fought last night will get him the kind of respect that has been absent for the majority of his career by the majority. I like this Floyd much better...he's still using his talent and skills but not using those attributes to out point his opposition via a boring decison.

I've often wondered why he doesn't be himself more. He thinks his persona is better than being himself in the media and that's just not true. Anyone getting the feeling that he's playing the media game really good right now... in anticipation for something else?

He was doing much better in the center of the ring for sure and I wondered why he just didn't keep it there by turning and shuffling to stay away from the ropes... but I'm still not positive on what he is doing on purpose and what he is doing because he just can't do what he used to do...which includes having the stamina to do it. Even post-exile Ali had tougher fights because of this.

Now if he is saying he would have went with his Pot-Shot/Run tactic...that would have been interesting...but very boring. Very boring. And the crowd and the fans on boxing boards would have tore him apart. And there is no way he would have had a chance to out-due Pac like I think he was trying to do.

Somebody should have asked him where was his Jab all night ?
Sr. should yell at his boy.

But he wasn't countering it. He either got hit or blocked and in order to block he had to pull his guard back a little further opening up uppercuts. Activity is still pts as well even if he did block some Mayweather stil looked in controll. So if the whole fight went like that Mayweather wins easy.

Plus the looping right, uppercut combo is what had Cotto staggered in the 12th.

If Mayweather fought the pot shoting defensive, movement style it would have been an easy boring fight but like he said he went for the KO, opened up, took risk, took hits, and still got the W.

he did what he said he was gonna do and beat Cotto at his own game. Excellent job and a new look that we haven't seen from him. How many fighters can claim they could beat Cotto comfortably using more than one style...none.

"Nothin cool about taking punishment." I commend him for the way he fought, with tons of grit and skill, but I don't think he was on the ropes by choice. Sometimes Floyd can only deal with pressure by rolling to set up counters, and while it clearly works, taking advantage of that limitation is what gets infighters success.

So you think Floyd was on the ropes for long periods of time because he couldn't do anything about it?

It amazes me how gullible the members of ESB as of late. I laughed at how many believed that FMJ "chose" to fight the hard way and actually "have a choice" to win in an easier manner.

    Made my day really.
