The impressive thing about that is that Robinson did it in about 2 1/2 years.

    Haha I'll play along.

But was Floyd undefeated as an amature? Nope.

Do you think Floyd will be able to go on a 88 fight win streak in the professional ranks?

You know playing that game isnt gonna get you very far, when its in comparison of those two.

It doesn't matter how many years it takes, winning 40 pro fights in a row is an impressive feat. Robinson was a total bad ass.

All I did was point out an interesting note about the two. You don't think it's worth noting that both of these guys started out 40-0 and that Mayweather will have to beat Robinson's namesake to get to 41-0? And no, Mayweather will not go on a 88 fight win streak. **** has changed. You think Robinson would have damn near 200 fights if he fought in this era? I thought not.

And so what if he does, Floyds had 40 fights in 15 years, Robinson had 40 fights in 2 and half years, and had beaten 3 future hall of famers 5 times in his first 2 and a half years as a pro, before you go saying he was fighting bums, :hi:

I don't really mind a fighter thinking he's the best ever, I have more of a problem with the fact that Floyd wasted two years of his career when he finally became the type of draw to get the big fights.

I mean, Ray Robinson did that too when he retired to be a tap dancer, but that was after facing a ridiculous amount of quality fighters.

Why? He was fighting guys that were inferior to him and didn't have the time to train properly for him. Back in the day, pitchers routinely won 20 and 30 plus games in a year. Nowadays, you rarely see a pitcher win 20 games. Why? Because back then they didn't have 5 man rotations, there was no pitch count and relief pitching was relied upon a lot less. Things change in sports. If Robinson's 40 wins were more impressive, it would be because of the level of comp. and the manner in which he won, not how long it took him to do it.

I understand what your getting at.

It comparison though floyd's 40-0 achievement is very impressive, but isnt as impressive to me as SRR's. Its taken floyd the better part of 2 decades to reach this mark, which for nowadays standards is still impressive, but SRR was 40-0 within two years of being pro. And before you say they were all bums check his opposition in that time span.

And if Robinson still grew up same way he did nowadays as he did when he actually lived, HUNGRY, he very well may have been one of those guys who fought 10-12 times a year, which still happens, UNTIL, someone turned him into a cash cow prizefighter.

Pretty much. I just don't put too much stock into how long it took Robinson to amass 40 wins. Fighting 40 times in 2 1/2 years was common back then. I put more stock into who he beat and how he beat them.

You are correct. Ray Robinson had some impressive names under his belt in his first 40. But, they do not equal Floyd's 40 opponents.
