Floyd Mayweather Jr. means business for his May 5th fight against WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Mayweather wants Cotto’s scalp and his World Boxing Council 154 pound title to add to his growing collection of title belts he’s won over the years.

I almost feel sorry for Cotto, because he’s probably going to get beaten black and blue by the time this fight is ended.

Mayweather said this as quoted by Examiner.com writer Igor Frank: “This fight won’t go the distance. So I know he [Cotto] is coming in for the kill and I am coming in for the kill.”

Above all, Mayweather wants to put in a great performance for the fans and to make sure the boxing fans who pay to see him fight on HBO pay-per-view for $59.95 and the ones that have paid to see him fight live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, will get their monies worth on May 5th.

Cotto is really up against it here, because he’s not had a hard fight in three years. His ex-promoter decided to look for beatable guys instead of matching Cotto against the young lions in the 154 pound division like James Kirkland, Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan.

Maybe Cotto could beat some or all of those fighters, but we’ll never know because his former promoter Arum decided not to match Cotto against them for some reason. What this all means of course is that Cotto is going to be going into the fight with a long dry spell between quality opposition and that could hurt him in a big way against a class fighter like Mayweather.

This fight comes down to Mayweather’s speed and accurate punching to Cotto’s power and pressure. Cotto has a big power advantage, but what good is it if he’s unable to land his shots with any consistency?

Right... When was the last time Floyd "went for the kill?!" (when the opponent was looking that is).

He might be more agressive, but no way it would be a seak and destroy kinda affair. Floyd UD12.

    Mayweather TKO 11

First 3 rounds will be competitive, after that Floyd takes over and forces a stoppage...

How much more powerful is Cotto, really? Honestly, if you had to say, which one of these guys do you think is more likely to score a one-punch KO? Fair enough, Mayweather rellies upon timing and technique to max-out his hardest punches, but Cotto himself is a bit of a grinder.

    Close IMO.

I think Cotto puts up a good fight but gets turned into a bobble head eating uppercuts whilst trying to work on May's ribs. Eventually Diaz stops it after Cotto gets too far behind and bloodied up.

Only a week away damn time went by fast! Really I think Mayweather will continue his streak from Mosley-now with being more aggressive but not sure whether he picks up the pace or stays. Either way a great boxer to watch that does subtle things well aggressive(SFW-LW days) or not.

If I'm not mistaken I'm sure he said he would ko Oscar but fought a cautious but still interesting fight. Will see results and watch fight later before making a true judgement. As with Dawson-Hopkins 2 tomorrow.

Which hack wrote this article? The guy can't even get the right sanctioning body for which Cotto is the champ of. He even mentions the correct one right before he mentions the wrong one. Also, Cotto is not just power and pressure. That's too much of a one dimensional tag to put on Cotto.

You have two, elite, hard hitting, boxer-punchers going at it. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this fight did not go the distance. This is what boxing is all about, the best going at it in a toe to toe battle. Real boxing fans shouldn't miss this fight as it has the makings of a classic.

Cotto is not elite. Top world class, sure, but not elite.

He is not the best opponent Mayweather could face either.
