There is a grey area, it isn't black or white. Mayweather has been aggressive and standing his ground since the Mosley fight. He did it vs Mosley, Ortiz and now Cotto. Don't know why people are acting suprised. So you add Mayweather's new found aggressiveness with Cotto's intensity and hunger to win and you get what you got.

Mayweather didn't carry Cotto and Cotto didn't force Mayweather to engage. They both decided to not to back down when recieving punishment cuz they both got hit with some solid shots. Mayweather had a comfortable lead going in to the 6th rd if he wanted to win by pts and run around and not engage and not take risk you would have saw it in his footwork and you would have saw Cotto chasing him all over the ring.

mayweather definitely dominated the overwhelming majority of mid-ring fighting, but cotto even had his moments in that space. when I think why mayweather wasn't able to spin off the ropes with consistency, because he was able in some cases, not all, I come to the conclusion based on viewing the fight, that cotto had alot to do with that inability. everything else you said regarding making fighters look better by taking it easy on them, or actively choosing to fight their fight in order to retain or enhance the appeal of future matchups, is pure speculation. I'm not in the fighters minds, nor am I apart of promotional efforts, so I cant agree with that. you need facts to make assertions like that.

When he fought mosley people said he would run. When he fought Ortiz thy said he would run. When he fought cotto they said he would run. Floyd can fight on the front foot. I don't understand why this shocks people?

Mayweather doesnt have the legs to move consistently anymore. He will fight in spurts like Ali did towards the end of his career taking breaks on the ropes.

Still look at Cottos face and demeanor after the fight and Floyds. One was pissing blood the other had a bloody nose.

Cotto fans need to stop patting eachother on the back for getting smacked around by a 35 year old boxer.

It all dates back to he myth of the rope a dope. Ali wanted to dance against Foreman first round which was probably his best round. Came out and bust Foreman in the mouth was schooling him. But thats all his legs had that one round. Mayweather was boxing the hell outta Cotto in the first 5 rounds. However his legs cant go a full 12 like that anymore. It wasnt like Cotto was applying some radical great pressure. Mayweather would easily spin away when he wanted. But he cant consistently box on his toes like he did against Marquez.

The new Mayweather will be more flat footed. Throw more combinations. And take breaks on the ropes. Much like a past it Ali.

Ali used to pot shot too. Wath the Sonny Liston fight. How many combos did he throw before that last round. It was actually a very boring fight until Ali thoughT Liston was here for the taking

Pot shotting takes more skill then standing and trading.

Knowing Floyd, I think he is just saying Cotto forced me to a fight. His is not going to give credit to his opponent other than the usual cliiche.

I think I'm buying what you say here. Would only add that, apart from age, it probably also has to do with him fighting at 154. Wasn't he similar vs DLH, the only other time he fought at that weight?
