All in all, I want to know this: Do you agree that Natives have it the worst of all races, and that anyone that values themselves as a decent human being, should be aware and at least passively supportive of the notion that US owes a huge debt to those people for their land and their losses? Because that was my original argument, that you later sidetracked into, well, this, whatever this is.
I was forced to read extensively on the subject (I am saying forced because the books were poorly written and were overly emotional for my liking), and as an independent observer I can say that while the older generations have in fact been mistreated and often abused, the younger generation is doing remarkably well, reaping the fruits of their ancestors struggles and claiming them with remarkable sense of entitlement. An advantage should be viewed exactly as that, an advantage, and not a birthright due to skin color or ancestry. Now, I can't speak about US in full capacity, I can only draw parallels with Canada where I currently reside. Thankfully, black population here is remarkably humble, friendly and hardworking (with exception of certain trouble areas). My undergraduate classmate, a lovely gorgeous jamaican girl from a great family (that was leaps and bounds wealthier than mine) won 3 entrance scholarships to graduate school (females in science, visible minorities in science, female visible minority), while I won only one, the one based on GPA (mine was in A range, hers in B+). She didn't act entitled and openly said her complexion and gender offers her an advantage, and I have a great deal of respect to her saying that.
when you arrogantly post "class dismissed", you set yourself up for sarcastic comments about research. i knew you had to be aware of native african complicity in the slave trade, yet you presented them as "manipulated". something you appear to be happy to apply to my words, while repeatedly denying your own. a form of debate that frankly, i am not prepared to indulge.
The "class dismissed" comment was in response to Peril's "don't you ever forget this" comment. I'm not denying anything. Your interpretation of what I said was just incorrect. Yes...Africans were initially complicit in trading their own slaves with Europeans , just as Native Americans were initially complicit in trading with European settlers and sharing the land. However, it wasn't long after, Europeans decided they wanted to TAKE what the natives of each continent had, to meet their growing need for these 'goods and services', instead of barter and trade for them. What ensued was the near genocide of Native Americans and a holocaust and diaspora of millions of Africans. This is what characterizes MOST of what slavery was and the European colonialization of the Americas. This is what I emphasized. There was nothing "manipulated."
yeah.....very true. Yeah, this is true. But they don't have the motivation to leave their ghettos or scure a future because there ARE a form of reparations in place. Thy get a stipend each month for subsistence. It's higher or lower depending on which state they live in, but there is a minimum from the Fed, supplemented according to the state/region in which they reside. Last I heard it was about $830/mo minimum, and they still are able to qualify for social welfare programs like Food Stamps, WIC, Section 8 housing, according to their level of need. That of course is the reason they don't protest and rally as others did during the civil rights era, and that of course was the governments answer to the civil rights movement. Throw money at em, they'll quiet down.atsch
$830 a month is not living, its existing. Just bringing up a child drums up to $240 000, and that is if you give your child a bare minimum in absolutely everything. This social subsidy is on par with welfare, at least in canada (here you get roughly $800 a month per person).
as a general rule, sure, but it's a dream life if you're traveling quality of life isn't dictated by how much $$$ you earn, depends on circumstances
Something most people seem to not understand is that Natives have different measures of success and different goals. To them, living a long healthy life on an unmolested, unpolluted land, and watching your kids do the same, is happiness. To us, earning as much money as possible and stepping over each other to race to the top of the corporate ladder, is the meaning of life. Success is measured by how many things we can buy, how nice our house/car is and how fancy a restaurant we go to, with complete disregard to the fact that we are literally burning through our planet's resources and effectively destroying the home of our offspring. Natives had a demonstration here in canada, when the pipeline was about to be built in british columbia. The main sponsors were the united states, as the tar sand oil was supposed to go to you guys. I am a graduate student in science but my scientific background wasn't necessary for me to know it was a bad idea, basic research would tell you how disastrous that would be to the environment. When the natives went to strike, I went to see and support them. They WERE ALONE. And this is a global issue that affects us all! That's why I find it laughable when punisher says that blacks fought for the rights of all races. Everyone looks out for their own.
he loves attention and the spotlight. Like a child that instinctively reaches for anything shiny, floyd is reaching to all celebrities. And bieber is with floyd because its cool be "gangsta" now and floyd is "gansta light", not quite a hard man, but close enough.
I said others have benefitted from the struggles of African-Americans to attain basic human rights. I did not say African-Americans fought for everyone. What I find laughable is that these simple points repeatedly fly right over your head.
No one is Gaza has ever been a slave .. Let be clear, Black were murdered and not allowed to fight back.. So are you asking me would Id rather die fighting back or die on my knees and not allowed to fight at all.. confused??!!I don't think so !!!
