Floyd Mayweather, Jr and Wladimir Klitschko, could defensive boxing be on it's last legs?

Everyone knows defensive fighting is an exceptional art, love watching defense. Floyd will eventually retire and this will be his last stand against an incredible fighter in Conor McGregor. We know Floyd is now 40 and he's pretty much shot and way out of his prime, could this be Floyd's last stand?

With Wlad retired and Floyd soon to retire, defensive fighting has never been at its worst state. There are no good defensive fighters aside from these two. It's just a shame.

A new era has begun. It begun when the final bell for Pac-Mayweather rung. The following week Canelo went toe to toe with Kirkland earning a record breaking 2 million viewers.

This era as proven by 2017 already, is an era where the best will fight the best.

Depends on your outlook. Personally I'm not a big fan of defensive first boxers. They tend not to make for enthralling fights eg Floyd and Wlad.

Ward and Crawford are defensively sound. Canelo is also a natural counter-puncher with good head movement. Lomachenko is very defensively sound. Mikey has a great guard and picks his punches very well.

Wlad's never been known as a defensive wizard/maestro. Clincher, yes. Defensive wizard/maestro, no.

If you do not dedicate adequate time to shoulder strengtheing and endurance then you will waste the opportunity to increase the quality of your punches, improve your DEFENSE, maintain speed throughout the bout and the overall level of your performance. To find out where I got that info type Reemus into your youtube search and he will tell you what you need to know about defense and how good modern boxers are compared to a novice like Connor!

Ward, Crawford, Mikey, Usyk and Lomachenko are all safety first. Assuming Rigo does anything with his career before he retires he's there as well. No idea what you're talking about here OP.

He's one of the most defensively sound fighters around, it's just not as notable because he doesn't stay on the ropes rolling shots or slip punches by a mile with his hands down. His head movement, control of distance, guard, and ring generalship all make his defense excellent.
