I agree. Too many people on here think that if you don't conform to the archetypal 'silky' boxer who circles the ring, jabs to the head, utilizes footwork and athleticism, has great speed of hand and foot, is very elusive, etc etc, then you are not a 'skilled' boxer. But why is that particular style of fighting necessarily any greater than a pressure fighter, or a bodypuncher, or a brawler?

Roberto Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez, Rocky Marciano, Marvin Hagler, Aaron Pryor, Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Alexis Arguello, Carmen Basilio, Rocky Graziano...

None of these guys conformed to that style. There's many different styles within that paragraph. But every guy is a skilled boxer.

I bet people called Hagler a club fighter on his way up.

And Roberto Duran is more skilled than Floyd Mayweather IMO.

    Open your minds!!

I was intending to to add a "NO I AM NOT COMPARING THEM TO EACH OTHER" line but looks like I forgot, expected a reply like that. No I'm not comparing them to each other, just mentioning them in the same line in terms of special abilties(No, not comparing those abilities either), if one's specific resume doesn't impress you then that's your opinion and I won't even bother to change your opinion.

He didn't worry about Cotto's punches because he knew Cotto couldn't hurt him?, what kind of bull**** logic is that coming from a fan of boxing?, Margarito didn't bother because he doesn't the style that lets him avoid them. Much like Arturro Gatti WHEN IT COMES TO DEFENSE(No, I'm not comparing them to one another, made that in caps for you to avoid twisting tactics), Margarito's style since he started is just plain out stalking with very poor ring cutting with his head wide open for counters and basically anything you decide to throw as every fight of his proved. He looks slow and poor early because his opponent isn't slow nor tired, as they break down and slow down from actually HITTING him he starts to shine, which he normally does mid-rounds, Paul Williams refused to get tired and took it the distance with a W. With Mayweather's stamina I don't see him getting tired punching an open target for 12 rounds, he has the conditioning for it and proved it already, yes he will eat some punches but since when was Margarito a one punch KO artist to seriously threaten Floyd here?

Of course he would rather die than lose, all successful fighters come with that mentality, though the man has 5 losses still and one is very recent. I know that he fights everyone infront of him with all of that and I do know that he throws combinations, do you think those really slow and predictable combinations will catch Floyd as much as they did to Cotto?, if your answer is yes then you don't know Mayweather well and don't seem to notice how slow Margarito really is. When Margarito throws he needs to position his self to do so and by the time he does that he will eat some punches with Floyd getting out of the and moving from one place to another in the ring, Floyd WON'T stand in one place and allow Margarito to throw and land his punches, even if he does position Mayweather to throw those combinations I'll give him far too much credit for landing 1 out of 5, Mayweather's movement is that good and Margarito is indeed that slow.

Of course it is and I know a lot(no not everything) but those styles, do you?, you don't seem to understand Margarito's own style well enough with all do respect nor Mayweather's. For someone in Mayweather's style you should know already that someone like Margarito shouldn't be as "death bringing" and terrifying as the hype suggests. Maybe it is for other pressure fighters but not for a great mover with great speed, yes it will definitely be tough but not as tough as many claim, at least not in my opinion. Especially someone like Margarito who is EXTREMELY predictable and very slow, I would actually give Cotto a much better chance to beat Mayweather than Margarito. Fans tend to freak out when they see someone far bigger than another and instantly give that fighter the edge and for good reason, but is it good ENOUGH for someone with Mayweather's ability?, I don't think so.

There are styles in boxing and that's just one of them, you either appreciate it or not I guess.

I won't even bother to reply to a proven ****** like you, go answer at least half of the 1000 questions I left then I'll do the same to you.

Now back to supporting fighters you barely know about just for the sake of hating.

Cory Spinks was the fighter that unified the belts not PBF. He beat Miyargo who at the time was considered the Champ at 147. Floyd beat a guy with that was nothing like Miyargo was when Spinks fought and beat him.

To an extent I agree with you, Margarito would be hit with punches by Miguel Cotto no matter what strategy he goes into the ring with. Cotto is a fast crisp puncher and utilizes angles well with frightening accuracy. A fighter with those sort of abilities will not find it hard to hit any fighter, but Margarito went into the Cotto fight a lot like Hagler went into the Hearns fight. He has the ability to stop himself getting hit as often, by holding his hands higher, using more head movement and standing out of range, but Hagler thought Hearns could be knocked out so he walked through everything he threw in order to get the stoppage. Likewise, Margarito didn't believe Miguel could hit him, and his main priority was to put on as much pressure as possible. You don't put pressure on by waiting for your opponent, with hands held high from range, he just walked inwards and tried to get off with uppercuts at every opportunity.

The overriding point is, Margarito can put on better displays of defense, but he had his priorities right against Cotto.

Irrelevant. I am not discussing a H2H matchup between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Antonio Margarito, because I wouldn't feel right giving a retired prime fighter the benefit of the doubt. If Floyd wants to prove to the Boxing world that he is "better than Sugar Ray Robinson", he should come out of retirement and do what he should have done from the beginning, clear out his division. Otherwise, Margarito is the man at 147lb. Also, just because a fighter of Floyd's class could poke holes in Margarito's strategy, doesn't reduce Antonio to a club fighter.

    Okay.

I think we have different agendas here. I responded to your comments to disagree with you when you began insinuating that Margarito is a club fighter. I am not discussing whether or not Floyd would be able to defeat Margarito because like I told you before, Floyd is retired and my only business here is to defend against comments such as yours. Margarito is not a club fighter. He puts together beautiful combinations, not as fast as Cotto or Mayweather would, but he still utilises his angles well, and his uppercut is one of the most effective in the Welterweight division if not in any division. In addition, a club fighter would perhaps headhunt, whereas Margarito priorities both his opponents body and head. His left hook to the body is beautiful, and he demonstrates it as an effective weapon. He beat Miguel Cotto, who is an A level fighter, and that alone stands as a testament to Margarito's ability. He is not a club fighter.

The only problem here is that you have misunderstood my being here. I am not here to discuss a fantasy matchup between Antonio Margarito and Floyd Mayweather Jr, only to disagree with you in that Margarito is an A level fighter, not a club fighter. I understand Margarito's style perfectly thankyou. He fights to his strengths; stamina, strength, and chin. He presses the action early so that when his opponents are tired, he is still fresh and will be able to land a lot more cleanly and consistantly than his opponent. Regardless of how you feel about this strategy, it has proven to be effective and Margarito deserves credit. However, Margarito could make use of his long arms by jabbing more and setting up his combinations, but he is a great inside fighter, and throws short uppercuts and mixes it up to the body and head very well. His skill is underrated.

Margarito was never known for having any head movement or any serious defensive abilities. Margarito's tactics are obvious, the man comes forward and wide open with his punches as he accepts to take punishment in hope to wear his opponent down as the fight goes, if he does spot that then it's curtains unless the opponent proves he can take the punishment, like Williams proved, then Margarito didn't really have more to offer. He's far too predictable for someone like Mayweather, that's all I'm trying to say here. Yes his style is definitely affective yet far TOO predictable for someone like Mayweather and Margarito's jab is a set up for an obvious right hand, something Mayweather will be expecting, Margarito doesn't provide anything that would make Floyd think twice or even confuse him at times, absolutely nothing. Also I really don't see Floyd going to the ropes and kneeling with his head down to allow those predictable yet too slow uppercuts to land, the reason why they were far too affective against Cotto is because Cotto tends to lean with his head down a lot therefore making those uppercuts even land HARDER, Mayweather will be 110% prepared for that. As a matter of fact, even as Mayweather trains in sparring he CAN find someone to imitate Margarito's style fairly easily, can Margarito do the same?

He never showed anything to suggest that's true, it's well known already Margarito has nothing worth mentioning when it comes to defense. To be able to land something against someone like Mayweather, Margarito will have to open up and that means Floyd landing far more much like Cotto did but far worse. Cotto tried to imitate Mayweather at times and actually looked like Muhammad Ali doing it, which explains even more what Margarito really offers. If Clottey was able to look like Ali at times then what would you expect from Mayweather?

SRR is on a level on his own, that bull**** said from Mayweather was completely stupid and ridiculous. Even if Mayweather comes out of retirement and cleans out the division, totally I wouldn't rate him even close to SRR to be honest. Also about his retirement, don't expect Mayweather to come out and clean out the division like a super hungry fighter, the man had enough already and done more than enough previously in his career and currently to be hungry enough to seek anything but big money fights at times. In a dangerous sport like boxing when a fighter openly admits he can't find the motivation anymore it means he's either out or dead in the ring. If Mayweather comes then it's one or two fights at most then retirement after them yet again and if he does come out I'm hoping and guessing Margarito will be his pick and I PRAY DLH fights an opponent if the Pacquiao fight doesn't work out to secure that.

I know he's not a club fighter, the reason why I responded in such fashion to a ******ed 10 year old like Aztek_Cabdriver is because he doesn't seem to show the respect a fighter I support deserves because of his WWE keyboard gladiator mentality. Then again you seemed to be defensive about me replying to a ****** the way anyone is supposed to but didn't find his "Gayweather" and completely insulting posts to Mayweather ridiculous?

Margarito is NOT an A level fighter, that's complete bull****. An A class fighter is one with A class skills in every department, Margarito has two A class abilities and that's stamina and chin. A man who doesn't even know how to cut off the ring well enough ISN'T an A class fighter, come on man. Margarito definitely deserves credit but when it's getting completely out of hand then someone has to say something about it and Margarito's fights are out there as good enough proof. Paul Williams isn't even an A class fighter yet he beat Margarito, same goes for Santos. Margarito is beatable if you can handle the pressure and show a solid chin with good enough stamina. His skills is rated fine, it's exactly what it is and don't think I'm saying this as an "insult" attempt, hell no, if you notice any my posts looking slightly foolish it's because I'm responding to fools but to people who look to discuss in mature fashion I'll reply the way I'm supposed to. Margarito is a very good fighter but he's not class A, class A fighters are guys like Calzaghe/Jones/Mayweather/Hopkins/Pacquiao(especially after the improvements he showed)/Marquez just to name a few active ones. A class A fighter is one that can adapt to situations and show rare highly appreciated and respected skills, Margarito has one style and one style only, if it's not succeeding then he just continues without knowing how to adapt whatsoever. Taking 4 to land 1 isn't exactly A class material, it's entertaining no doubt about it but because it entertains me I won't be blind and consider it A class because there's a huge difference. Margarito's chin and stamina are A class, to be honest I would rate those two A+ but what else is there?, those two abilities are what wins him fights and only those, not to forget size which is a given.
