Not when Mayweather was active, only now he is and thanks to Cotto who was considered #1 INSTEAD of him and for good obvious reasons. With wins over guys like Six Heads zero chins, Cintron and Gomez any up and comer will take the number one spot.

    Don't believe me?

Check out Spinks/Judah/DLH/Mosley/Baldomir/Mayweather/Cotto/Forrest/Mayorga and aks yourself why ALL of those were officially considered #1 at Welterweight and Margarito not even coming close?, did all of those duck him?, did an ENTIRE division duck this guy?, he must be more dangerous than Hagler then.

Cintron by decision most likely, depends what Cintron shows up we all know this guy lacks in the head though has very good abilities. But the safest bet is Cintron by decision.

Still won't change the fact that Baldomir was #1 at some point and EARNED it by winning in the ring. Talking bull**** doesn't earn nothing.

Like I said, if you had to bet your money on a PBF vs any welter, you guys would bet your money on PBF!

If Alexis Arguello had the same mentality as Floyd Mayweather Jr, he could have gone down as a 5 weight world champion also, but he elected to figt the best 140lb fighter in the world instead of a weaker champion. Mayweather, on the other hand, elected to fight Baldomir and Gatti, instead of the real contenders at 147lb. He gets credit for the wins, and rightly so, but Mayweather Jr isn't what I consider the best of his generation. His accomplishments at welterweight just aren't great, but he has some quality wins at other weights.

Just winning a belt doesn't prove you're the best. Hell, plenty of guys have gotten lucky in a title shot. That didn't make them the best. Just the Champ. Beating the other guys MAKES you the #1 guy. Simple as that.

Statistics aren't anything special, it's who they fought and beat that holds any ground in the fight game.

At 140 Mayweather should be known for how much people didn't want to fight him.

Cotto, Hatton and Zoo were all fights that could not be made.

Who was the best 140lb fighter in the world that Mayweather beat. I hope you're not talking about Hatton, because that fight happened at 147lb. Collazo beat Hatton at 147, in my opinion.

Like I said, he gets credit for the Gatti win but it isn't anything remotely special. De La Hoya had destroyed a better version of Gatti a few years before Mayweather got to him. An okay win, but nothing more than that. Doesn't constitute to being the best welterweight in the world, and the best of his generation.

Like I said, he gets credit for the win, but a win over Calos Baldomir is nothing more than an "okay" win, and doesn't constitute to being the best 147lb fighter in the world, or the best of his generation.

I certainly don't think Mayweather Jr will be known for his resume, so you're probably right. Not a criticism, but Mayweather was great at 130, but never really proved himself as a 147lb fighter, not to the extent of being the man at that weight. Not in my opnion.
