I think Monzon's jab is pretty over-rated tbh. He occasionally used a strong jab but otherwise pawed with it, leaving himself wide open for anybody who could counter with the right. (Even Mundine managed it.)
These are good points, I think Toney is great at taking distance away though against Nunn and McCallum amongst others. I think the slower jab of Monzon will be something James would exploit with counters Monzon was more consistant than Toney though, so in the real world I wouldnt be putting my money on Toney
Just read the posts, started off as I expected but eased off a bit. If this was the general ?........ 45 pages fkn long probably :rofl Ps. Toney-Monzon would be a very fascinating fight, I just cant imagine how that one would go.
Floyd for me is currently in top 60 along with Oscar, Hopkins, Barrera, and Morales. He might get into top 50 if he defeats Mosley, probably top 40 if he then defeats Pacquiao or other good welterweights, and top 20 to 30 if he goes on to conquer the JMW-MW divisions.
Yeah he did paw with it, it was more of a range finder when used like that, but i do think that sometimes people tend to see it as an unattractive punch to view rather than see what it does for his dictating of the pace of the bout. By all accounts it landed like a ton of bricks. And it's constantly in the opponent's face, which usually frustrated them.
I read it. Monzon smoked and boozed and was still top of a much higher and steeper mountain. Toney's a great fighter, a legend, but he's nowhere near an all-time top 10 in any weight class. Even if you only look at his very best performances.
I dnt think youve got the right person there m8. I can be an arse occasionally but take it with a pinch of salt, im rarely being completely serious if my comments sound imflamatory. And i'd liked to consider myself pretty knowledgable I guess lol
