Actually I said I would give mayweather props, but yeah there's a double standard for me coz I'm a Pac fan. I'd love to be unbiased but I can't since I'm a fan of Pac more than I am of Mayweather (though I certainly don't hate the guy, I think the whole villain persona was created to sell tickets, but he does love his money, lol :D)

Anyway, if PAc vs PBF does happen, I for one would like it to be @147 since they'll probably weigh around the same at fight night regardless anyway. But I still think PBF would have a reach and style advantage so Pac would be the underdog here. Hence my opinion that a Pac win in this fight would be bigger than a PBF win, but i would still give PBF props if he does win. As for everyone needing to come down in weight to fight Pac, I'd say that only should apply to Cotto and Mosley, those guys are pretty big for WWs.

I completely agree with you that when in the position of power in negotiations it does not make sense to put yourself at a disadvantage.

This in my mind this supports the case that PBF picked 147 because it was more advantageous for him to fight Hatton there. Meaning it is not unreasonable to think even if it is only a few lbs he has the freedom to bulk up as much as he feels he needs without being restrained by the 140 limit.

Again if you read my original post on this issue, I stated this was the perception of why PBF picked the fight to be at 147. Unless PBF comes out and truthfully says why he wanted it at 147, which to my knowledge he never did, fans can only infer he chose this because it was to his advantage.

Hatton was never considered the bigger fighter, the fight was at 147 to neutralize any physical advantage that might be possible. As it appears based on the Collazo fight he gets diminishing returns on move up in weight against fighters above 140 lbs.

I think the facts are pretty clear:

JMM is a career 126 lb fighter that has spent 95% of his fighting career at this weight. He is only 1 year removed and has only fought as high as 135 lbs. PBF has never fought as a professional below 130 lbs and is over 7 years removed from 130. Couple this with PBF's amazing reach and although it isn't necessarily Paul Williams vs JMM there is a sizable advantage there. As I've said before.. it is perplexing to me that people have convinced themselves otherwise.

I do believe I said potentially up to 7lbs, as that would be his option. So if he chooses to add 2 or 3 or 5, it is his choice what he feels most comfortable at. If the fight is at 140 he doesn't have this choice and that's the point I believe.

The only thing we know in regards to his last two fights against Hatton and Oscar is he weighed in at 145 and 154 respectively. I believe HBO never revealed his fight night weight and as such we have no idea what portion of that was muscle mass and what was rehyrdation.

At the end of the day, I feel (and this may mostly be the media) that the fights legitimacy was based of the pretense that it would be fought at a catch weight. Although hestitant at first most fans came around to the idea that although a long shot due the large jump in weight for JMM and the vulnerability he showed against Casamayor and Diaz it may still be interesting.

I don't think that would have been the case had the fight been announced from the beginning as a true 147 lb welterweight fight. This is all about selling a fight that truthfully doesn't make much sense beyond the storying tell aspect between JMM & Pacquaio. Without this shared history this fight would not even be a consideration.

Let's also look at this, this will be JMMs 5th weight class, while Floyd is in his 4th. The reach advantage though, Floyds had that at any weight class he's been at.

Here's the thing, even if Floyd went down to 135, people would still *****.

The human body can cut 10-15 even 20lbs of water weight.

Cotto was cutting 15-17lbs when he fought at 140. He still cuts 13lbs at 147. Same with Mosley and Margo.

    Floyd weighed 150 and 145.
It wouldn't matter the weight, people would still complain.

This fight is a build up to a Pacquaio fight. Thats all IMO.

Of course! He would have beaten the best in the sport. He'd have greater accolades for this feat should he win if he goest to PAC weight division and wins. Makeing the fight at 147 would be seen as Floyd wanting every advantage possible taking on the best fighter P4P who happens to be the smaller man.

You are correct I was mistaken in regards to the Oscar weigh-in.

I agree people will always complain but at the end of the day we would have had a better fight, IMO. The only person who wins by moving the fight to a higher weight is PBF, the fans and Marquez lose because we are robbed of a better fight and Marquez (although his own choice) is backed farther against the proverbial wall.

    I completely agree.

THats ridiculous, so you want Mayweather as a victim for Pacquaio to enhance his legacy as opposed to seeing a superfight for boxing?

Mayweather vs Pac is actually a very good match up in terms of size. This is the true superfight of this decade.
