Floyd Mayweather Jr or Julio Cesar Chavez at 130 and 135

Thats an interesting point about Floyd v Pryor, there was definately technical flaws in Pryor that Arguello exploited but i think Arguello was an exceptional punch picker and extremely clever, but i think that non-stop fast punching style would force Mayweather out of his comfort zone, and Pryor was a guy who'd come at you all night, but hey maybe your right ....... How do you see a Pryor v Duran or Pryor v Chavez at 140 ?? Both very nice fights ..... The big thing with Mayweather thats different to alot of guys even with the top guys is his defensive ability on the ropes, ive never seen Floyd punished, now is that a question of Top Level opposition ?? Natonic what do you see in Floyd as a weakness that top guys of the past could exploit between 130 -147 , i dont think Floyd as a fighter is viable after 147, maybe in an 'exhibition' with Oscar but not in real fights

I think Duran brings the same fury as Pryor but is better technically. Duran was a bigger man than Arguello and he carried that power up all the way to Middleweight (somewhat). He may even stop Pryor in my opinion. I think Pryor beats Chavez at 140. I just think he was better at that weight. Decision, maybe cut stoppage.
As for Floyd's weaknesses. I'm not sure he has any glaring weaknesses. I agree that he didn't take much punishment but I don't think he faced anyone that would bring everything like Duran. I guess I could see their fight being somewhat like Duran - Leonard in Montreal. Duran had the speed, ferocity, and determination to turn it into his kind of fight. Cut off the ring. Turn it in to a street fight. As you said with Pryor forcing Floyd out of his comfort zone, that's what I think Duran would do. In addition, I don't think Duran would take as many pot-shots as Pryor.

I think its quite close between them at 130 lbs but at 135 its Chavez comfortably.

The only weight in which they have both competed that Id back FMJ to beat Chavez would be 147 lbs, Id back JCC from 130-140 with the 135 lb bout being the most decisive win for Mexico`s best ever.

Ps. It would take 70 million $ just to get Floyd in the same room as the Chavez of 1987 to discuss a possible match-up.
JCC of that time was the ultimate in all of boxing & Floyd isnt as silly as he looks.

Chavez is criminally underrated both H2H & p4p here on ESB.
People have short memories or else they arent old enough to have seen Chavez pre Whitaker other than the Taylor fight.
Taylor would have beat any 140 lber on that night the way he fought because no other fighter could have took what Chavez took AND dished out the surgical like power shots that he landed to enable him to KO Taylor, underrated performance by Chavez.

130 would be a very close fight between FMJ & JCC but the peak Chavez of 135 that beat Rosario beats any FMJ, even the one that beat Corrales (I know he beat Chico at 130, I just mean performance wise)

Chavez wins in a primes H2H match & is the greater p4p fighter.

At 130 these are possibly the two greatest fighters to contest that division extensively.

I still think Chavez is #1 at 130 and would favour him here.

Yes, he padded his record. That's why he had so many wins. He liked to stay active.
But he had lots of good wins if you ignore the padding.

Yes, I miss the insight of a lot of those old posters. funny I've been on boxing sites for close to 15 years and so many posters have so much more knowledge than I do. It's just a hobby where you learn forever, if you choose to.

 

I think Floyd would have problems with JC Chavez at 135 lbs

I think Chavez was at his best a that weight.

Floyd would have to use angles and movement. He would have to concentrate the whole time. He couldn't relax and stand in front of chavez. He also would need to keep the fight in the center of the ring and avoid prolonged stretches on the ropes.

That said, Floyd has the smarts, defense, and ring generalship to win a clear decision.
