I'm going to assume Floyd fans are younger than the fans of the sport itself.
Leonard fought the fighters of his era and came out on top. Floyd ducked the welter division when it was at its most stacked. Therefore no comparison. Yes, you may say, but if Pac is the best and if Floyd beats him than he is the best. This seems to be the logic of Floyd fans. All boxing fans know styles make fights and to take it back to the old 7o's/80's guys. Leonard beat Hearns, Duran beat Leanord, Duran gets ko'd by Hearns. In other words fighting Pac and beating Pac does not put Floyd on top. The division he ducked would have put him on top as an ATG. ****, Cotto wasn't the man at 147 it was Mosley, therefore as great as Pac's win was it would have been greater yet by defeating Mosley esp. since he is a southpaw and Mosley has a great power right hand. Case in point Cotto and DLH were stylisticly similiar, both converted southpaws fighting orthodox who's best punches were the left jab and the left hook. Mosley would have proven a bit more.

Welterweight is the one division Mayweather has competed in that, thus far, he has no weight behind the claims of being greatest of all time. He can believe it all he wants, it's his perogative. However, you compare who he has fought at 147 to greats of the division's past who he will be compared to for the sake of argument and his resume just doesn't hold up.

He can't do anything about there being no future ATG around to use to measure against(maybe Mosley who is getting long in the tooth and it just might show against the speedy Berto). He could however have made strong statements in facing the greatest percieved threats and eliminating them. He instead took another route and allowed others to do such. The Robinsons, Basilios, Leonards, Hearnses all took on the best of the division and beat them one way or another(Basilio got robbed a few times due to the fact that back then boxing had its shady mob dealings) He still has time to rectify this but it won't change what happened.

Floyd wouldn't have a hope in hell of beating Pavlik, size makes a difference.

Floyd could have avoided a lot of crticism by simply fighting Cotto before he "retired".

Again there seems to be somethign you are struggling with here. You do realize that Floyd started his career at superfeatherweight. So cleaning out the welterweight division, his 4th weight division is not imparative to his legacy as far as beating the best at the welterweight division. He arguably did that once when he beat the former undisputed champ and the undisputed champ back to back, then moving up and beating Oscar in his 5th weight class.

This would be like demanding Leonard go up and defeat the undisputed champ at 168 and then winning a title at light heavyweight against a ranked opponent,

Pac is the best welter. He's proven that. Floyd beatin Pac would mean more then beating mediocre opponents like Cotto or Margarito, who frankly if you had any boxing knowledge were obviously not that good. The only reason you consider these guys a threat is because you know they had a massive size advantage on Floyd. But sorry they werent that good and Floyd waiting Pac to establish himself was a far more lucrative and better resume adding decision

So you think Floyd had predicted, years in advance, that Pac would end up being the number one welterweight, that's why he never fought Cotto.

    Good post.
Floyd is a great fighter but not an ATG.

Now that's going too far. He's definitely an ATG. What does ATG mean to you?

Starting at superfeather is not special, its not unique. Why do people continue to bring this up? When a fighter's great glory is in the past he's done.

The fighters at welter were great. Some had a massive size advantage, some did not. As I said before Floyd graduated out of his weight limits 135, 140. He is a 30 year old fighter so of course he can no longer reach those weights. He could have entered the welter division and caused some trouble. In my opinion he would perhaps have one loss on his record but would have come out on top and menaced 154 as well. The point is he did not. And yes, you can sit back and say everyone is not on his level and he shouldn't have to fight them to prove it. How many of us though had Quintana defeating Williams? There's a wild card in the mix and it does come up. Floyd never let that wild card come up and so we will never know. But what we do know is that those welters were great fighters in an era that is now largely over. They fought it out, they looked human doing it, it will happen when champions pair off against champions. But it was a great division. And Floyd missed that historic bus.

I've never seen a Floyd fan claim he was the Greatest ever but I've seen *******s claims Pacs the greatest numerous times. *******s are a plague on the sport of boxing.

Fool. Not enough credit to get him so close to being number 1 ATG. No. Read.

Something tells me, just a gut feeling, Berto will be the next "man" at welter.

What part, the part about Floyd or the part about Pac. I knocked both fighters. I'm a bigger Pacfan myself, one step away from *******, but I understand why fights get made and some fights don't.
