I asked about Hearns vs Mayweather in a recent thread and most thought Hearns would destroy PBF. But what about Aaron Pryor? That guy was a punching machine. How would he fare against Mayweather providing he didn't drink that second bottle of which reportadly contained an unsanctioned substance of orange juice, honey and cocaine in the Arguello fight.
I agree, Duran had trouble with slick boxers. Look what happened when Leonard became himself again and abanded his macho slug it out mentallity and boxed in the second Duran fight.
"When Leonard became himself again"? Leonard didn't choose to fight the wrong fight ... Duran feinting him into knots, closing the range so quickly, tagging him with the right and sending him towards the ropes, Duran's relentlessness and his ability to make Leonard miss his shoeshiners meant that Leonard was forced to fight the fight that he did ... Duran didn't give him the room to use his legs, much like Hagler did to Hearns, Leonard was forced to try to punch Duran off of him. Anyways, is it really a bad strategy for a younger, heavier, more speedier fighter, who hits harder, to not engage the smaller, older, moved up from his peak weight fighter?
I would go with Pryor by decision. Took a great punch and constantly the aggressor with a very high punch rate. Mayweather would be able to counter on occasion but Pryor was never discouraged and would keep on coming forward.
i like pryor in this because at 140 i feel floyd lost alot of his movement and speed and would need them in this fight i think Pryor would overwhelm his defense with punches to win a UD about 12-3 but at LW this fight is alot closer and is almost 50:50 btw does nayone else see abit of Pryor in Mayweather
Pyror is another all time favorite of mine but I think PBF would win on points in a great fight. Personally I would favor Duran over anybody at 140 pounds even Whittaker , PBF and the great Julio Cesar Chavez. I agree Hearns would be very difficult for PBF at 147 however it would not be a cakewalk either for Hearns. PBF versus Benitez that would really be something. Ray Leonard against PBF at 147. I have never liked Leonard as a man but I refuse to swayed by sentiment when I look at fighters and matchups. Put it this way at 147 at his best I don't think anyone takes Ray Leanard even the original Sugar Ray Robinson.
By his own admission, Ray Leonard fought the wrong fight and Duran's inability to dictate in their rematch supports that.
Pyror would be a difficult stylistic matchup for mayweather, his non stop attack, coming in with clever little angles and hitting hard as hell is going to give mayweather something he has never faced before, in most of his fights floyd dictates the pace, he would not be doing this with pyror, if he wanted to win he would need to fight every minute of every round because you can guarentee that pryor would. I fancy Pryor to take a competitve UD, floyd will wins rounds with his counterpunching which pryor was open to but i cannot see him being active enough to win enough rounds, pryor will begin to overwhelm him i think
I'd take Mayweather by UD. He makes Pryor look stupid a lot of times, but the workrate of the latter makes it very close.
That's not called an admission, that's called an excuse. You'll back that one but immediately write off my rebuttal to your next point I'm guessing. That probably had something to do with the fact that Duran was in nowhere near the same shape or state of mind as he was in the first fight, due to a multitude of factors, most of which have been discussed ad nauseam, but that certain posters are too stubborn to accept. Oh well.
Thank you Pea, i been discussing this fight for too long and couldnt be bothered with it right now, but anyway, i echo the principles of your post loud, LOUD. My favourite one is Kyroguy's 'when Leonard became himself again' Oh my........
