I don't know...part of me feels like he chose this knowing it somewhat favored him (and that even his most ardent haters would have to admit that, and favor him over a consensus ATG just due to styles) but he also seems to really feel it would've been a challenge. To be fair, he said - in earnest, seemingly - that he felt Mosley, Cotto and Maidana would all be challenging for him...and they were. More than anyone in years, each of them.

So he is capable of being honest and correct in an-alyzing what match-ups could be tough for him, I think.

More pressing: 3 votes each way for a stoppage. PLEASE explain.

I'll play Devil's advocate, even if I think Mayweather probably decisions Flaco Explosivo.

Mayweather was inclined to be a bit more offensive in approach early in his career, and was more inclined to throw in combination. Sometimes, those combos weren't as tight as they could be, and that gives Arguello the chance to time him with something big. And, with respect to Mosley, Arguello would be the best pure finisher that Mayweather would have faced in his career.

As for Mayweather scoring a stoppage, he was actually a pretty solid puncher at the weight, and would be fighting someone who was dropped or stung every now and again. Mayweather might not elect to go for the finish if he hurts Arguello, but it's not impossible for me to envision a scenario where he catches Flaco flat footed and rings his bell with a lead left hook or pull counter.

Par excellence, to be honest. Few as high in history.

It really is what distinguishes him. There have been faster-handed guys...sharper and more accurate guys...those with better defensive reflexes and habits, and with slightly better timing on their counters.

    VERY few as ring intelligent.

Lucifer ought to put you on retainer, Drew - that's how good at that you are.

And I agree totally - Mosley @ 135 is a much bigger puncher than Arguello @ 130...but not half the finisher. (taking into account patience, knowing just how much to go for it and how much to hold back, etc)

...and of course as we saw, merely being able to buzz Mayweather isn't enough. If you don't one-shot him (and with his chin and reflexive ability to roll w/ most shots, good luck to anybody doing THAT) you need to be an expert finisher to capitalize on any "in" you get...

Alexis is one of my all time favourites but I can't pick him here. Floyd too quick on both offence and defence.

I'll admit I haven't seen any of Arguello's fights, but Floyd at 130 is one of the best fighters I've ever seen. I have a hard time seeing him losing to anyone at that weight.
