Khan is now behind the Chocolate Brownie man in line.

If he wants to cut ahead, then he needs to quit ducking Brook and earn his cut.

As much as people like to label Berto as a "bum", he is a former titleholder at the weight, and he is coming off a solid KO victory over the redoubtable Josesito Lopez. Plus, the funny thing is that Berto's got some attributes (power, handspeed, heart) that might cause Floyd some problems. Good punching technique, too.

I honestly think he'd be more competitive than Pac was- at least in terms of rounds he might be able to bag. I think it might be a little bit easier for him to work his way inside and get business done than it was for Pac.

Still, no way Floyd loses, unless he suffers dramatic deterioration from May to Sept.

Yeah, there is enough similarity in the power & heart and (maybe not so much hand speed) but awkwardness of attack have me thinking he could enjoy pockets of Maidana-like offensive success, as I outlined earlier.

In the end, though, I just think Mayweather has too much on him in the way of smarts for Berto to capitalize even if he jolts Mayweather here and there.

If this fight ever takes place, I'll be betting on the under. Berto is shot to pieces.

Don't people understand what the plan is? We all know how Floyd has liked fighting those that defeat Berto, well now he might be facing the man himself! If Mayweather is victorious we get a real scintillating fight for 50-0 or 50-1 as it will end up, Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Floyd Mayweather Jr, just give them different coloured gloves and let them shoulder roll it out, everybody is happy this way, Floyd finally loses and he also gets to 50 with only himself defeating himself.

something tells me this won't happen, he's pretending to announce a poor opponent, then he'll formally announce someone better in the next few weeks, and everyone will say its better than berto and be vaguely excited.

unfortunately for him, none of the other WW's have been doing much to really justify fighting him.

Floyd UD for me as always.

You two are getting really greedy in my view talking about Berto having any success. Berto doesn't work enough in there, is too small with his T-Rex arms, no defense, low ring IQ, flat-footed, and only has one dangerous punch, the quick counter right hand at close range. He has fast hands, heart, and some power(if he catches you off-guard with the handspeed), but he doesn't know how to work his way inside effectively, and when he takes fire he doesn't go through it a la Maidana. Floyd can potshot him all day without ever letting Berto get close if he wants.

MVC: "Since Berto is a HoF type fighter, and a dangerous one at that, I think Floyd would put on a brilliant display and win a wide decision because he is that great."

Well, Berto;s inability to command distance against Floyd would probably become apparent sooner rather than later. But he's got the type of physical strength that Pac doesn't have at WW, so I don't see him getting tied up quite as easily on the inside...and I could see him maybe making it s-c-rappy enough to snag a couple of rounds on a judges card.

Still, my initial post was probably a bit more optimistic than it was meant to sound.. I don't see it being all that close of a fight once Floyd finds his range.

Still, I do think Berto has some physical attributes that might stand him in surprisingly good stead in this match-up.

Berto will beat Mayweather like a rented mule and make him look more like ET than Guerrero made him look when he tried to shoulder roll, he has the arm holding blueprint now instead of the shoulder roll one.

:nono Berto has always had a potent (if telegraphed) left hook as well.

[It set up the Hernandez kayo, and he caught and froze Ortiz with it often, and he literally spun Urango around 180° with hooks several times]

He does, however, when throwing it, leave himself open to, and has repeatedly been hurt by, counter left hooks - and Mayweather is the check hook master. :think

[Cosme Rivera issued the first knockdown of Berto's career with a left upper-hook, Zaveck had consistent success with it and staggered Berto late in the 1st, and JSK stopped him with a short left hook...most of the other times Berto was down or hurt were by southpaws: Collazo, Ortiz, Guerrero...]

The right hand only sticks out as his main weapon because so many of his memorable highlight reel finishes have come by it. (Estrada, Quintana, Lopez)

As for the pot shots as he is coming inside - well, Berto would be among the few that can use Mayweather's favorite dirty trick effectively - the forearm brush-off from the shoulder roll. There will be a lot of jockeying for position up close, lots of leather bouncing off either man's arm, lots of two-way shoving matches and ulna blade locks. Berto will be able to rip quick desperation shots in the confusion of the melee in those moments. His physical strength will pay off there. Mayweather no longer has quite the legs to avoid those moments ever happening. Most guys, he can do his forearm screen, overpowering them, usually to his opponents' surprise, and scamper away to safety. Berto, however, is stubborn and very experienced in leveraging his body weight in that manner - not as skilled at it as Mayweather, but more than anyone Mayweather has battled.
