Whose mandible will be shattered this fight?

    That's the question

I can see Berto dropping Floyd once possibly. Perhaps a stoppage?

This fight doesn't surprise me, Mayweather has been a cherry picker for a long time. I'm happy I can say I have never paid for a Mayweather "fight"

Floyd's had a hard on for Berto since he was heavily hyped by hbo. I thought Bertos shot was over after the Ortiz fight(one of the best that year). But he somehow seems too find himself in the mix?!

Mayweather clearly sees the flaws in Bertos game, he isn't the best on the inside. I think Floyd's envisioned that KO long ago, an that's how he wants to bow out.

I'll be disappointed if it is but for the sake of the poll. Mayweather KO

Right? It seems like Mayweather was as susceptible to influence as nearly any casual fan, and has simply never let go of the idea that Berto is some ultra credible dangerous opponent. :yep

To be fair, there was a time when people levied accusations of him at one time ducking a collective group in a purportedly stacked welterweight division that included "Margarito, Cotto, Berto, Clottey, Williams, and Mosley" - all but the latter considered to be smack in their primes. So it stands to reason that he might want to scratch names off that "hit list", kind of like Arya Stark. :yep He already got to Cotto & Mosley. Williams is paralyzed. Margarito's retired (and incapable of making 154, let alone 147, ever again). Clottey is on the remote fringes of relevance. Berto is the only name left from that group.

Still highly doubt Mayweather fights him. He likes to ying when everyone thinks he's going to yang.

That would seem too suggest he's stuck in some translucent timewarp, where he only hears what he wants to hear.

I'm surprised the punisher isn't in the mix, too be fair, good point.

IB, Berto's never going to get inside to do any of that. He won't be able to get out of the way of Floyd's straight right. This is the same guy that eats punches with regularity from the likes of Lopez and Soto-Karass. He's not going to slip or roll anything from Floyd. And he doesn't know how to use his jab to protect himself coming in, nor does he cut the ring down well.

And he did have a decent left hook, you are right, but we also haven't seen it in years now, possibly because of his troubles getting countered. And once again, he has to get there to throw it.

Has even one person of the dozen voting for a Berto stoppage done so unironically?

Of course he won't slip or roll but if he steamrolls his way in with his arms up, Mayweather is going to have no choice but to a) hit arm, b) work the body, c) get tangled up in a physical up-close arm-on-arm grappling match with Berto, or d) cede ground.

A is an unsustainable option, sooner or later he will have to resort to options B-D. Option B is high in energy consumption (Berto can be affected by consistent body shots, but gradually over time, not a single loaded-up blow or even a flurry is going to instantly slow his advance), to which Mayweather is averse. He'd just be spinning his wheels, same as with Option A. C is best case scenario for Berto, and that's where he could do some damage in the midst of the chaos. D just amounts to a stalemate and hits the reset button until Berto does the exact same thing again.

The high, outwardly-thrust forearm defense is something we've seen Mayweather use plenty of times but rarely has anyone confronted him with a taste of his own medicine. That is one part of Mayweather's game that Berto actually has aped quite well. (and maybe the single trait best copied by any of the Mayweather copiers out there, certainly more effective for Berto when he uses it than any of MW's poorly imitated tricks have ever been for, say, Broner)

Berto doesn't even steamroll as you describe though. He has a very loose high guard or lame shoulder roll defense at times and as punches go through either one to hit him in the face he stays on the end of the punches or outside of both his range and his opponent's. He doesn't fight through that, he waits for the opponent to stop punching and then occasionally comes in with short bursts. He did this even against Soto-Karass, who he enjoyed a pretty large speed advantage against. He's at a speed disadvantage against Floyd. And Floyd never has a problem with ceding ground when Berto's never going to cut the ring off and catch up to him. He can just potshot and circle repetitively if he chooses. He might take Berto lightly and give him chances, but I just don't see Berto causing Floyd any issues.

Berto went life and death with Ortiz and Guerrero and lost.

If Mayweather wanted to fight a journeyman like this for the last fight of his career, he should've turned babyface and destroyed Broner :deal

He was, then he lost to Maidana, then he was supposed to fight him again, but lost to a handicapped Porter. :deal
